As I mentioned before, I'm a third generation trucker. I drove for 40 years but retired early at 58 because of an injury. That said, I grew up on farms. I started driving tractors and moving irrigation pipe when I was about 12 years old and I absolutely loved it.

Just a warning- farming is addictive. I started helping my uncle on their farm when i was 10. I am now 68. And i have farmed for my self since i was 16.

There is allot to move when it comes to harvest... I was a city kid in a farm town, so good chunk of my class grew up/working on farms.. They said there is allot to drive around and haul... I think you will find from what I hear it shares getting load from point A to point B only A is a field and B may be a silo then back to point A for another load... I hope you do enjoy the new job...

I have to tell you Kurt, I watch you truck to relax my mind every night from the stress of farming. I’ve really enjoyed riding along with you and seeing places I used to go in when I trucked. Nothing wrong with a break. I will continue to watch just to see how you do farming and to keep up with your family.

I went on harvest from Texas to Montana back in 1977 and loved every minute of it. Learned a lot about just about everything especially mechanics and equipment operations. Operated a 760 Massey Furgeson then a 1480 International Harvester combines.

Kurt, good luck with the new adventure, I've been thinking for a while now you need to get you a camera/phone mount that you can setup just behind your shoulder in the trucks and maybe a chest/head cam so it free's up your hands I'm sorry I just stress about all the one handedness 😂

I'm no expert, and this might be the first time I've watched your channel but, having watching several wasted seasons of Top Gear with the usual suspects... some performance cars have the option to switch from manual to automatic and vice versa. I don't think that is the case in your case. However, my ex-wife drives automatic with both feet - 1 for gas and 'tother for brake. She has never, as far as I know, met Mika Häkkinen -- a champion of two-foot driving in the F1 pedigree -- but the technology exists! The first time someone tried to teach me clutch was a total failure because it's not about words, it's about feel. Later of course, naturally, my older sister taught me in about 3 minutes. She knew how to explain the mechanics. But you've got it my friend, and My! What a lovely place to be and to work. +1 for Iowa

It isn't silage yet. It is chaff. It becomes silage once it is fermented. Specifically, it is corn chaff (chaff for silage can be made from several crops, but corn and grass are the most common in Michigan)

It's good to take a break from the big road now and then. But be careful, you'll end up like I did. Buying a dump bucket and making the same trip every day and liking it 😆🤣. I hope to be back at it as soon.

i farmed as a kid until leaving the farm for the USAF. Looking back now, the laste 1940's and early 1950's through 1957 were very good years for my personal development. Might be you're going to find this period in your life to be refreshing. When getting back to Schmidt Family Trucking a feeling of rejuvenation may well recharge your batteries and you'll be glad for that. LOL Thankee for the video. Have a care, get well and stay well.

Morning Kurt, technically it’s still trucking if you’re in a sillage truck. As for” I haven’t had a boss for 15-20 years”. You’ve had a boss for as long as you’ve been married to Warden.😂😂 stay safe out there and enjoy the new job.😎🇬🇧

As for the Automated Trans. The one with the clutch is probably a first gen automated trans. The automated transmissions are the same as a manual trans except air switches the gears along with the computer. The one without the clutch is a newer style most likely and air activates the clutch while the computer shifts the truck.
