You gotta love James Stewart. From everything you see and hear about the man he was such a kind, gentle soul and yet he had quite a good range as an actor and could provide real depth of character in his performances (such as in Rear Window and Vertigo). I think there was very little pretension about the man. The closest thing I think we have to Jimmy these days is probably Tom Hanks, who also seems like a really decent, down to earth guy who also happens to have a great range as an actor.

Very true. When you consider that at he Olympic Games of 1936, held in Berlin; Jesse Owens stated that while Hitler had, in his way, congratulated him (by waving and applauding), President Roosevelt (FDR) actually snubbed him because he was black. And then move forward to 1943, when the Pentagon was completed, it has twice as many toilets as are required, because one set is for blacks, one for whites. Roosevelt actually condemned that. It just shows how attitudes change.

If James Stewart was a racist then racism must be a pretty good thing.

I never understood why he hated his version of "Easy to Love" so much; his voice was thin and wobbly, but it was still such a lovely, earnest rendition and my favorite of that great Porter classic.

No. I am 82, and I will never see an actor like Stewart. And there are others. Grant, Power, Peck etc. They had to have talent. Today a woman can just take off her clothes, and have a roll in the hay, and presto ! She is a star ! How pathetic.

What I would have given to spend time and even gotten a kiss from Jimmy!!! Such a decent man that we all can relate to. The only person who can tell jokes and keep a straight face and be able to get so much laughter. Thats a gift. RIP JIMMY & GLORIA

I just watched him perform in that movie a week ago and he was outstanding in it. So was she. Now I wonder if she was a very tall lady, or if they had to make adjustments for their differences.

Actually, "your" is correct here. He said "Your utterly pathetic, random 'racist' slur" referring to JuanMacready's "slur" being "utterly pathetic". He was not saying that Juan was pathetic, rather that something of his was.
