Powas Pakop PM material, from your words I see that had you been PM you wouldn't let Bougainville go just like Marape and past PMs. The weight of this issue is heavy, you leaders are feeling it, the simple man on the street is feeling it. I quote Pakop "Nobody forced our fathers to gain Independence from Australia, all leaders from the 4 regions coerced under Somare to gain independence. Was there a referendum prior to Independence. Referendum is a public vote, not for few regional Leaders.

Hon. Governor you right that this matter has to be discussed now in order to stop another burst as the expectations of independence for Bougainville in 2027 has already placed in our hearts and cannot be transformed. Father murdering his children is very difficult to understand and that's what PNG have done. Therefore, Bougainville is on its own, the sense of PNG as been a papa blo mipla has already phased out from our minds and hearts. Just let go rather than denial of your mistakes with the Australian Government who has been funding the PNG DF in the heights of the crisis.

I have a lot of friends & family from over there. I would be heart broken to see them leave Papua New Guinea. But they have lots of reasons to go. Bougainvilleans are a very resilient & intelligent, well mannered people. They will do well as a separate country but are they really ready & set up for independence? We must do this carefully & not rush into it. The National leaders must also spend time to fully understand why we came to this & steer the rest of PNG carefully onward. Nogat ok, umi olgeta bruk nabaut nabaut. Tired of corruption. We are rich in Natural resources yet remain very poor. Ol' resources blo umi go wer? Why are we owning a mere Les than 30% lo ol' resources blo umi. Why is Ramu Nickol 100% owned by the Chinese. Why do we own less than 10% lo Kainaintu mine? Why are we still using the Concession based agreement lo ol' resources blo umi & getting ripped off? Why can't we switch to a Profit Sharing arrangement so we get a bigger cut? Umi kisim independence long time tsol ol' foreigner's sutim nus blo umi na kissim resources nating nating bikos ol leaders too ino bisi lo pipol but lo poket blo ol yet. We need radical change or we will forever b a poor country. So much for " the richest black nation." and "Take back PNG." Take back PNG from what or from who??????

You are very right. I can say that they are feeling the pain from the civil war they had before, but I can say that nearly all the people of this nation are also feeling the pain in all forms, you can name them. Ordinary people are suffering in silent just like Biugainvilleans. Might as well government give greater autonomy to all provinces.

Papua New Guinea is still an Australian colony the current government recently signed a security framework with Australia on the 7 of December 2023. Please read the content of the security framework that was signed last Friday 7 of June is about six months old. Good Governor maybe check schedule 2.5 of the Papua New Guinea constitution which adopted section 5(3), of the Australian Citizenship Act of 1948. From this provision surely one part of this Country still remains a Colony of Britain. Simply because there was no referendum conducted to merge the two different Territories.

Totally agree with you.Papua was a British Protectorate then Australian Territory in 1905.There was no referendum so technically they are still part of Australia.

Mr. Parkop, please adjust your comments. B'ville made her UDI in 1975, two weeks before PNG received her independence. That's another proof that B'ville was COERCED to be part of PNG. Thanks.

Before 1975, two groups opposed Independence.Bougainville Secessionist Movement and Papua Besena.A referendum should have been conducted at that time. Failure by Labour Party and UN in not facilitating a referendum resulted in a bloody civil war in Bougainville. To date, there was no referendum to merge Papua and New Guinea prior to independence and breaking away from Australia. Referendum is a legal process for Self -determination and the result favoured Bougainvilleans so give it to them. Papuan referendum is still pending.
