Weapon of choice video, now in HD!
Due to a copyright issue with the music, I've swapped the second song for a track by Manchester artist Designer Thumbs: www.designerthu...
As you can see, the edits in the second half of the video don't really go with the music now, but at least it's in HD!

It depends on your own preferences for training footwear. The Vibrams wouldn't offer much in the way of cushioning, but would be flexible and would give you good feedback when balancing on rails etc. Try some on in a shop and decide whether or not you think they would be suitable for landings, wall runs etc.

I've been wearing Vibram Fiver Fingers for training for a couple months now and i think they are phenomenal. They dont offer any padding whatsoever but they really make you think about how much of an impact you are taking. It keeps you from unknowingly damaging your body, not to mention the KSOs give fantastic grip on a wall run

Well, we started not really knowing what we were doing, and trying to work out what we thought we'd seen in videos and on TV. We learnt a lot more though when we trained with more experienced people. I'd recommend coming to Manchester one weekend. We can point you in the right direction with your training and advise on correct technique etc :)

Yes, we're still around! We train 3 times a week, as always. There's a new strength training video on the way soon, and a couple of other video projects lined up for 2013 ;)

hey, I've been training in vibrams, and I love the sensitivity. Every movement feels natural and they really do force you to have proper form, HOEVER, occasionally a high jump will hurt quite a lot. Depends on what you want more, natural movement and truly proper form, or protection
@Obsidian1138

@RossMCcool Any trainers which you find comfortable. Probably avoid shoes with too much cushioning, as this can lead to poor technique in landings. A lot of people like Kalenji's, which are available from Decathlon in the UK. Personally, I'm using Asics Patriots at the moment. It's down to your own preference though.

@peteremarin Yes, anyone can do parkour. In you're new to it, start off with relatively simple movements and progress gradually over time. Nobody is instantly good at parkour. Everything has to be practiced and slowly improved upon. It's worth finding a group in your area who can help to get you started.

I recently started parkour about 4 months ago and I live in the suburbs near the woods. Trees and people's houses are good ways to do it so far. Gotta say tho, it's the hardest thing I've ever done and am loving every moment of it!

We were given the Ariake's for free, and we filmed some of this video on a day when we were doing some demos for K Swiss. Most of the time I wear Nike Darts.
@Obsidian1138
@Obsidian1138 14 жыл бұрын
@Tomlowlife We did some promotional stuff for K Swiss, so we were given several pairs for free. Personally, I wouldn't recommend them. The grip is very good on clean, dry surfaces, but in most other respects, they're not great. Just some light running shoes should be fine.

Yes, because in parkour, you train at your own level and work on things which you personally find challenging.

@Obsidian1138 14 жыл бұрын
@Goblinjimmscave The Nike Darts, or the K Swiss? The K Swiss have great grip on dry, clean surfaces, but soon loose it if it's wet or dusty. The Nikes probably have less maximum grip, but are much more consistent in all conditions (does that make sense?!).

@jake800man After a while, you develop callouses on your hands, so blisters almost never happen. Gloves are no good for parkour as you really need to be able to grip surfaces properly. I tried gloves for a while back in 2005, and they were significantly worse than no gloves at all.

There are good spots everywhere, all your job is, is to look for those certain places. Architects now design buildings to co-op with urban sports such as pk, free running, skate boarding, etc.

People often dont realize that parkour videos are merely a product of several months, most often years, of hard training, physical conditioning, mental preparation, ruthless and endless repetition. If you wanna become good you have to do it, alot, just like a baby thats learning to walk crawls first, then stumbles around, falls, tries again and again and again untill it succeeds, thus you must also "crawl" first before you can "walk", and eventually you can also "run". Hope you get my point.
@igooog

Actually, having thick-soled shoes is turning out to be a safety hazard. It makes ankle sprains more severe (simple physics-levers impart more force on a focal point if there is a greater distance) and disrupts natural biomechanics. Common running shoes are considered as the main cause for many foot/leg problems.

@Gfw36026 They're the K Swiss Ariake's. We were given several pairs by K Swiss. They're not much good for parkour really.
@Obsidian1138
@Obsidian1138 14 жыл бұрын
@hardORjumpstylePICK2 Well, the Ariake's, for example, are too stiff, and whilst the grip is great in dry conditions, it's very poor in wet or dusty conditions.

@xphilipwheelerx Alright, so, picture Parkour and Freerunning being similar in this way: They use the same type of 'equipment' and same kind of 'playing field,' much like figure skating and speed skating have the same equipment and playing field (ice skates and ice) but however, they are very different sports. Speed skating and Parkour are about, well, speed, yet, they are graceful and an art. Figure skating and Freerunning however are about enjoyment, tricks, and flexibility.

I've done this hobby/sport before.. And a word of advice to anyone wanting to start.. You HAVE to be extremely motivated, and I'd say a lot of the activity is based on confidence.. And as you can see, they turn things that you would never expect to see someone jumping over.. into something they jump over, so a lot of it is about using your imagination too, but don't be too silly :p oh, yeah.. I bet these guys have been hurt countless times whilst practicing/training..

The k-swiss shoes have excellent grip on the underneeth though they are way too heavy compaired to other shoes and ive had 3 pairs and after lots of landing on the toes they tend to rip very easy on the shoelase part as it gets compressed lots of times together , nike darts are good but the grips not the best , the best pair i have had are the black and yellow nike zoom limetless , which are awsome they are ipod compatible and very very light and flexible ,about 40 pounds or cheaper prob now :).
