Gosh, I miss how good Epcot was. Especially all of these guys! Also, Tom Morrow 2.0 was auctioned off a few years back. Not sure who bought him. Also, Starnac is currently being used to test out playing ball with an animatronic; Disney posted a whole video of it! He's stripped down to his bare mechanics beside his head, though, but its still recognizably him.

However, it was a has-been robot in Sharkboy & Lavagirl that sparked his memory to hunt this former robot down. Thanks for the video - saved us from a night of hunting for something we may have never found, otherwise. Cheers

Disneyland's Innoventions Tom Morrow is actually the third Tom Morrow. The original was a character in the Flight to the Moon attraction at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland. Tom Morrow 2.0 is now in the possession of Theme Park Connection, a park surplus seller that once had a physical store but now just operates online. They've put a 12,000 dollar price tag or something on him.

Holy shit, I was ON a FIRST team for a while in high school! Of course, it didn't last long. I was a freshman and they clearly didn't need me so I just sort of sat around and watched until I got bored and dropped the club, but it's still damn cool that EPCOT Center hosted the competitions for a while. Just like discovering the SEGA display at Innoventions with the massive NiGHTS into Dreams section, or noting the visual similarities between the Body Wars queue and Neon Genesis Evangelion's NERV HQ, I keep finding more and more that inexplicably links me to this literally magical place.

The Sega display was awesome. I remember going there in 1995 and freaking out because my hero Sonic was at Disney. And my fictional character crush, Knuckles. When I went back at age 10, they had some Sega Saturn games, but I was more interested in the other technology they had (it wasn't until Sonic Adventure that I officially dropped the franchise. I hated the new look; sort of like Chris-chan hating Sonic Boom's blue arms, but more understandable given I was 10.) I played Saturn for a while until I moved onto something else.

My family used to go to Epcot every summer in the 80’s and 90’s. We did go to the Living Seas the first summer after it opened (I think that was January 1986) and Jason was already there. So it was likely there when the Living Seas first premiered. So glad you mentioned the robotic lawnmower at the end. Was ready to comment on it. As for robotic arms, you neglected to mention the ones in Test Track version 1, as well as the Sum of All Thrills virtual coaster in Innoventions.

Actually!!! There's a white version of Starnac called Sky Cyberguy! He's much much more of a vague robot compared to Starnac, and I've only been able to find two photos of him and a few scarce pieces of newspaper clippings! He was also a show robot for Motorola, but seemed to disappear around 1998.

Before the Horizon’s Butler Robot appeared in the One Man’s Dream exhibit it used to be on a 2nd floor balcony inside of the Florida division of Disney Imagineering. A woman and I were tasked to clean those offices on overnight shifts and one night I bumped the robot while wiping the railing and a wing nut fell from its elbow and into a cubical below. I said to my coworker “OMG, I just broke a relic!” 🤣 I found it though and was able to put it back. No harm done. But I found out that at least the arm of that thing is made of wood.

Park Ride History I'm very sorry that Tom Morrow 2.0 used to scare you when you were a kid, he did the same thing for me. Along with Disneyland's Tom Morrow. But a couple of years later, once I watched the commercial segments of Disney Channel imagineer that, Tom Morrow 2.0 became my fascination with robots. Because I remembered watching some TV shows and movies at the time, like whatever Happened to Robot Jones, My Life as a Teenage Robot. Along with the Star Wars movies, the Bicentennial Man and the short circuit movies. I remember watching all of those movies and TV shows, and from that start I got fascinated with robots and of course technology. So later on I got used to Tom Morrow 2.0, along with Tom Morrow 1.0 from Disneyland. Mainly the way Tom Morrow 2.0 was created, is that yes he is a technological robot. But if you look at his face and almost the material that makes up the character, especially his hands. He was inspired by marionette puppets. So he is half puppet half robot, of something what Disney invented and called mini Medtronic figure. Disney with use mini Medtronic figures at first with Playhouse Disney Live on stage, then later called Disney Junior Live On Stage. At both Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure, so remember the puppets that you saw from those early shows, which is still going on at Walt Disney Studios Paris. Because nowadays the shows have been transformed into Disney Junior dance party. But anyway if you remember watching those early shows at both of those theme parks, the puppet figures you are actually looking at our half robot and half puppet. Which are eventually called mini matronic figures. And Tom Morrow 2.0 what's like the first mini Medtronic figure ever designed and created by Disney imagineering, although before him. If you try to look for it on KZbin, before Tom Morrow 2.0 was made. Disney imagineering made a couple of mini Medtronic figures before him, and like I said they were all inspired by marionette puppets. Without the use of strings or wires. Which meant that they wanted to use puppet techniques and crossover with robotic technology that they've been using for audio-animatronic figures for years and years into them, and the first one that they ever created was Sparky. Sparky with the very first mini matronic figure, and then they created another character name autoMatty, and then another one named Shelly who was eventually a mini metronic mermaid. I don't know if she had been used at Epcot innoventions or Disneyland innoventions, but then after that character another character who looked more robotic what's the name Artieson. And then last but not least, Tom Morrow 2.0 was created, and turned out to be the most popular mini Medtronic character of epcot's innoventions. Unlike the previous mini Medtronic characters it happened used at epcot's innoventions, Tom looked way more robotic then those characters. The previous characters had been used at innoventions to talk about technology, and tour people and tell them about Walt Disney imagineering. But then comes Tom Morrow 2.0, who looked more robotic and he not only talked about technology, he was then selected to talk about Walt Disney imagineering. So basically that's why Tom Morrow 2.0 looks way robotic, then Tom Morrow 1.0 from Disneyland's innoventions. and that's why he was so small as well, he was half robot and he was half puppet. His legacy started with the idea of taking marionette puppets into a whole new level, with robotic technology and the magic of audio-animatronics

There is some info online about JASON if you actually know what to look for... Try looking for info related to Dr. Robert(Bob) Ballard, who discovered the Titanic and was involved with the exhibit. I recall seeing this attraction before I was involved with his JASON project in school. This animatronic was named after the actual robotic submersible that he used.

I wonder if Sico had some influence in the visual design of Baymax, or at least what Baymax's endoskeleton looks like. Their head shapes look similar, and Baymax's "face" looks like a smaller version of Sico's. Also, Alec-tronic sounds like he was voiced by Goofy.

Jason wasn't in a "post show" any more than the world's largest aquarium was. The Living Seas was a true pavilion with movies, an elevator simulator, an omnimover ride through the reef and the ability to explore the reef on foot and enjoy many shows and exhibits. Jason was there the day the pavilion opened but the pavilion was not open when Epcot opened.
@ccm17673 жыл бұрын
Agree with you Wehk. Also, I think the EPCOT Center Jason was a tribute to the Jason and Jason Jr. submersibles from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In the quoted scene, the EPCOT Jason is shown next to a spitting image of the Woods submarine Alvin. Alvin and Jason Jr were used, I think, in the discovery of the Titanic wreck, which happened a few months before The Living Seas opened.
