This is a great video, as is the “part 1” if you will where you compare the WRC SB1000 and the MPAS whip. I like how it can fold, and I would almost be convinced to use this configuration over the MFJ-1979 as I’ve seen a few reviews indicating the -1979 will collapse or rust. I already have the WRC, I was going to set it up for mobile work, but since my 2 youngest are into camping now, I think I’ll put together a portable station. I do have a used TS-50, but haven’t used it yet, need to fire that up to see if it even works. Would love to be able to set it up for portable campground/park activiation and/or pedestrian mobile/SOTA. Your videos are great! 73 de Jeff, KF5KWO, Texas

Hi Michael. Thanks for putting our contact on the 40M QSO Map ;) Great to see your setup. Have you raised the WRC Silver Bullet 1000 above the base - more like a center loaded vertical? I have a 54" Hustler mast that I plan to use to raise the coil. I'll put the MFJ 17' whip above it. I'll use a sandbag on the base to keep it from falling over. May need to guy it too. I'll let you know how it works. Mel, K2JWD
@KB9VBRAntennas

I have center loaded the Silver Bullet 1000. Wolf River sells a set of rods to increase the height of the coil 48 inches. It gets a little tippy, but does increase your bandwidth a bit. Here's a video I shot last fall: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2GvdpiQn713iNE

Nice activation. When we camp, I cook in the Dutch oven all the time. That's the only time that I use charcoal briquettes. What is that, a chicken pot pie? I do have to say that I didn't know that Leinenkugel made anything other than the Summer Shandy. hehe
@KB9VBRAntennas
@KB9VBRAntennas 3 жыл бұрын
That was a chicken pot pie in the dutch oven. A link to the recipe is in the video description. As for Leinenkugels, it does come in a variety of styles, in addition to the summer shandy and creamy dark, they also make a berry weiss that isn't bad.

Thanks for another nice video! Interesting enough, there seems to be no contacts to any Canadian stations. Though judging by maps shown at the end of the video someone, say, from Ontario must have heard you, if any. So I wonder what's the reason... POTA isn't any popular over there? At first I suspected your antenna might have its radiation pattern faced the opposite direction, but it's a whip so the pattern probably is somewhat isotropic. Another case would be absence of hams north of you but that sounds unlikely either. All in all, i'm intrigued and would be glad to hear your thoughts.

I looked in the log and this activation netted 2 Canadien station. I usually get around 4-5 per activation. My recent trip to Big Bay on Lake Superior had 8. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2O3an6errNlfbs. I typically get stations from the cities in lower Ontario, although I've talked to Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. It depends on the band and conditions. It's easy for me to reach Ontario on 40 meters, the other stations are usually on 20 or higher.

Enjoyed the video and the backdrop. My questions are, How much of your battery did you use during your activation and can you buy that MilWhip as a seperate item?
@KB9VBRAntennas
@KB9VBRAntennas 3 жыл бұрын
You can purchase the mil-whip and the mil-ext individually. Chameleon has them listed separately in their online store. As for the battery, it depends on the level of activity. Setting the radio at 50 watts I can get about 3 1/2 to 4 hours until the voltage drops to a level that won't sustain transmit. On this activation I used 110 watt/hours (The battery has 154 watt/hours of capacity) and it ran for 3 hours and made 118 contacts.

This convinces me to get a WRC antenna. I think the Mini version would be the best as it appears that 95% of all activity is on 20 or 40 Meters, do you agree?
@KB9VBRAntennas
@KB9VBRAntennas 2 жыл бұрын
If you are using a long whip like the MFJ 213 inch or the Chameleon SS-17, I'd recommend the 10-40m coil. You aren't giving much up with the lack of 75 meters; that band is hard to work in the summer time and parks on the air activity, if that's your thing, is pretty light on that band.
@barrykery1175
@barrykery1175 3 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed your video. Great idea extending the whip. Attaching a wire to the top of the whip and attaching the other end to a tree will also set you up for using less of the coil. Then you can also get on eighty meters if desired. On the table, in from of you buddy, it looks like a set of coils? Is it a dipole? With all of those trees I was wondering why not a dipole? BUT.....your vertical seems like it sure is doing a great job for you. Hope you had a fun time in the park, it sure looks like you did. Barry, KU3X/QRP

@davewhite7679
@davewhite7679 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Self spotting activations on the "POTA. us" web page is immensely helpful. The excellent cell coverage at Lake Wissota State Park made spotting easy for Michael. Unfortunately at many parks there is no cell service or Internet access and that makes these POTA activations MUCH more difficult without self spotting.

1. Recognize Your Condition The Ten Commandments prove we have broken God's Law. Exodus 20 "Thou shalt not bear false witness (lie)." Thou shalt not steal." Thou shalt not commit adultery." "Thou shalt not covet." "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in Vain." The truth is, if God judged you by the Ten Commandments, God would find you guilty. Romans 3:19 "...that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God." Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." 2. Realize the Price of Sin Is Death And Hell. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death..." Revelation 20:15 "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Hell is a real place, where those who choose to pay for their own sin will go for all eternity. 3. Realize Jesus Paid Your Sin Debt. Romans 5:6-8 "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus, the Son of God, suffered and died on the cross for your sins. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus loves you. He wants you to be saved and live in Heaven with Him for all eternity. 4. Receive Jesus Christ As Your Saviour. John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." In faith, trust Jesus as your Saviour today. Acts 16:30-31 "...Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..." John 5:24 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." Would You Like To Know That Heaven Will Be Your Home? Do you admit that you are a sinner? Do you understand that Hell is the penalty for your sin? Do you believe that Jesus died to pay for your sin? Will you ask Jesus to save you today? Romans 10:9-13 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour or you would like more information, please contact us.
