August 4 was an emotional day at Parktown Boys' High School, the final match for the Champion Hockey First Team, proving yet again why Parktown Boys has to be the number one choice for any boy interested in hockey, who also wants the best state education possible.
Bryan Hillock, the Hockey MIC, lists this 2012 First Team's achievements:
The boys played 29 games in total, winning 21, drawing 3 and losing 5.
We scored 107 goals for and conceded 31.
The boys played 15 league games, won 11, drew 2 and lost 2.
We scored 47 goals for and conceded 15.
If there were league points we would be ranked as the number 1 first team in the province.
Provincial scene:
11 of our 13 first team boys were selected to play in the provincial Under 18 team:
Michael Marki, Matthew De Kretser, Chad Burke, Carl Hildebrandt and Craig Daniel all made the Gauteng Under 18 A team which won the inter-provincial tournament, making them the best team in the country.
Kyle Naicker and James Gilbert made the Gauteng Under 18 B team.
Kingsley Botes, Lesego Maruping, Ukanyo Mabandla and Keith Dudgeon made the Gauteng Under 18 C team.
Michael Marki has been selected for the National Under 18 A team and our goalkeeper Carl Hildebrandt has been selected for the National Under 18 B team.
Other facts:
We toured Singapore and Malaysia in the April school holidays and won 5 of the 8 games we played.
We came 4th in the Aitken tournament losing in the semi final on the dreaded penalties.
We have 3 players with over 90 first team caps - Marki, De Kretser and Hildebrandt
And 2 with over 50 caps - Burke and Daniel
This team when they were in under 14 lost 1 of the 26 games they played.
This team when they were under 15 lost 1 of the 28 games they played.
Best season statistically in a decade with an 82% unbeaten rate.
