Lawmakers have called for stricter measures to combat a surge in conmen targeting government officials and the public. During a recent parliamentary session, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa revealed that a significant number of MPs have been receiving fraudulent messages demanding payments for various services, often disguised as government officials or engineers.
Members of Parliament expressed frustration over the increasing prevalence of these scams and urged the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to develop effective strategies to track and apprehend the perpetrators. Additionally, concerns were raised about the practice of police charging victims to investigate stolen phone numbers.
