maybe at the end of this UT may be wondering why the hell wasn't the coach playing her a little more. I think Parra had something to prove and did a fine job of it.

Texas always knew what they had with her. The problem was how incredibly deep TX was. Were they supposed to sit Logan down so Parra could play more? No. So she is now on a team where she can be the star. Good for her.

Mel Parra's is an outstanding player with great skills. Even though for Texas her height was not good enough, she is a powerful and smart hitter. Her back row attacks are very effective. Her passing and serving are awesome too. I understand UT had taller and pretty good OT to compete against to, but she could had play back row, serving passing and attacking. Too bad her ex coach didn't really gave her a good chance. I am so happy she is REALLY playing and part of a great team now. Even though they lost this game, it was a GREAT game. They might had thought it was going to be a piece of cake since they are the reigning champions.
@ag1341 Жыл бұрын
To all the people saying it was Melanie's height, please stop with the BS! Does the name Amy Neal ring a bell. She was only 5'9, and they worked to make her an outside hitter at the college level bc she was only playing back row when she first got to UT. (I know she was an outside in HS) Melanie is an all-around player. Point, blank, period. She deserved more time than what she got last year. Aside from Skinner, there's no other outside on UT's roster that can touch her!
@pkgonzela536210 ай бұрын
Per Texas head coach, Parra reminded a lot of people about Amy Neal. TCU even took Amy after she graduated from Texas. After 2015, Texas went after lankier outsider hitters in order to be a block party school. That’s why Parra not getting much playing time because she joined Texas after 2015.

Some of y'all have never been collegiate athletes, or had children who were collegiate athletes, and it shows. Every top college team in this country has role players on their roster, athletes who could easily be the star at a smaller program. Every talented player who moves to the next level has a decision to make... do I choose a top 10 program and spend four years fighting for my spot, or do I choose a still-developing program and help get them to the top? Melanie Parra is an EXCEPTIONAL athlete! But clearly the Texas coach chose to keep her in the role-player category. And when she chose to transfer, I'm willing to bet he helped her reach out to coaches and steered her toward programs like TCU, where he knew the coach would recognize and use her talent. Every member of the Texas volleyball team knew Melanie was going to shine in that match. And they would want nothing less for her. Had she chosen to stay at Texas, I believe she probably would have beat out Wenaas as OH2. But she went with a program where she was basically guaranteed the starring role. She's happy, her coach is happy, and she's helping grow the love for volleyball on the TCU campus. On top of all that, she has a national champion ring, something we all know she won't be getting at TCU. I'm a huge Parra fan, and when Texas leaves the conference next year, TCU will be my favorite team in the Big XII. Regardless of the level of play or competition, less than 10% of high school athletes move on to compete in college. Some of those kids are happy to be practice players & cheer from the bench on gameday. Others are not. Whatever they choose, it should be what makes the athletes happy, not the people watching from the bleachers.

@quisduby1277 It's called life lessons. No one is immune from preferential treatment. Deal with it and move on, which is what Parra did. Harping on what happened last season does no one any good. She seems to be very happy now, which is what matters most to Parra & her family I'm sure. As for your comment about me being "dismissive", I stand on what I said. I see way too many comments from people who clearly know nothing about the world of college athletics, or even how the game is played, making ridiculous comments. Just watch the game, cheer for your favorite team, and move on. ✌🏽
