I gotta say brilliant to parramatta and the fans...most amazing comeback I've ever seen...and I'm a warriors fan born and bred...I was cheering for Parramatta in the grand Final too...! Well, maybe this year (2010) if the warriors don't get there first.Although 6 weeks in and Parra don't seem to be firing properly yet...maybe saving it for a late run again..? X-D

Andrew Johns recently said that Newcastle's run this year was like Parramatta 2009 or 2005, the big difference is for the most part, Parramatta were destroying teams on their run to the grand final in 2009, Newcastle have had some tough gritty wins but they haven't been belting teams (except Canterbury) like Parramatta did.

This was one of the best farytales in rugby league ever that I got a chance to watch!!! first team in rugby league history from 8th place to make it to the Grand final!! frikin awsome! The Hayne plane and Moi moi train!!! loved every second of every game the eels played! some of the best finals games I watched were the eels downed the Dragons,Tigers and Dogs! though we deserved the Grand final coz the Storm fuking got salary capped, it was one of the best farytale finishes ever! GO THE EELS!!!
@solo68109 жыл бұрын
Eels were premiers that year as far as I am and anyone else should be concerned. Storms were cheats.
@ajitpai79707 жыл бұрын
jovaniohk ditori if Melbourne were knocked out before the top eight, the Tigers would have been in. And they were similar to the eels, they were horrifying at the start of the season, but came strong at the end, I think it would've been those two in the grand final. But I'm not sure who would have won.
@neilkruse8356 жыл бұрын
No mate, doesn't work like that in team competitions. When people cheat in events like the 100 meter spring you can simply give the award to second place, because they were the best non-cheaters and therefore deserved winners. But in 2009, if the Storm had been pulled up earlier for cheating, Parramatta would still have had to face someone else in the Grand Final, and there's no guarantee that they'd beat them. It's not simply a case of giving the Premiership to the runners up.

There will never be another player to dominate a finals series like Jared Hayne did that year. To think it came down to another great fullback (Billy) in the GF to be awarded with a penalty for been held down, at a pivotal moment(again the eels were losing but were just starting to look the side they were throughout the pre-lims) man, had they won. Melbourne had a game plan that was if Hayne was to crab across the field(like he had been doing all through prelims) he was not to come back the opposite way. Damn i so wanted Luke Burt to go out a winner. Such a smooth operator.

Great vid....As a Dragons fan I was devo about the rematch loss, but I have to say the Eels played some of the best footy i have ever seen in the premiership when they were running hot...incredible, improvised support play with Hayne conducting and great belief in themselves....Their more structured approach in '11 doesn't seem to be working for them as it does for teams like saints and storm etc ..maybe each team has to find itsown way of winning rather than imitating others....

I noticed that people say Jarryd Hayne almost single-handedly led Eels to grand final that year. Daniel Anderson moved him from five-eighth to centre and then FB, which was his preferred position. While Hayne played FB, he had skills of a five-eighth which added an X-Factor to the team. At the start of ‘09, they played too structured.

+Stuart Grandquist Your right probably will especially with our team losing pts because of all the salary cap drama, say that about maybe half way through the season this is if we are lucky.. we might make a comeback in about round 15-20 and then win all of those games and come back up the ladder and THEN we will hopefully finish between 5-8 positions on the table. So that means that we created the 2016 comebackers haha or i mean that we had a 2009 season but repeated it :)

2013 will be a re building phase under Stuart. 2014 is where I'm also interested and looking forward to. A lot of players in the NRL coming off contract. Big name players. Who all love working under Ricky at Origin level. Next year, Ricky will assess who he wants to keep and who he's letting go. Ken Sio will be there for years to come I would say. 2013, anything better than the wooden spoon is considered successful. 2014 is where people will be watching just how good they can be recruitment wise

@bluefen Totally agree with your comments on the Eels. We can't play structured football. Hayne doesnt need a script, he is a brilliant ad lib footballer and he plays instinctive football. As a fan I am totally disappointed with the way we are playing. It seems our halves are afraid to take on the line, their kicking game lacks imagination just a regulation bomb every 5th tackle. The eels must go back to the formula of offloading wherever possible or else they will be wooden spooners

Hayne played as well as he did here this year, the team around him just wasn't good enough. It shows that guys like Hayne and Thurston need more than themselves to win a premiership. The cowboys are surging though with the team as a whole getting better, Thurston is just as good as he always has been, showing it really is a team sport
