So adding all that material doesn't obstruct the flow of the port? Seems like you're always hearing about people REMOVING as much material as they can without going through the walls. Does the redirected flow just more than make up for the loss of total cfm airflow? Also seems like a narrower port would increase the airflow velocity and give better atomization and swirl in the chamber...does that have any effect?

Adding to the port floor and removing from the port roof redirects the air flow for much nicer entry to the cylinder.

Volumetric consistency is what you need. This gives that intake port a nice even path. Without it, it’s kind of like an expansion chamber on a 2 stroke where the air spreads out. And thus it slows your airflow. Dyno results have proven these work by a dramatic degree.

What if you don’t have a lump and you just remove the bolt boss. What will happen?

The velocity in the port will go down, creating a lazy port.
