Those concrete posts with the wooden lats on were to carry electrical cables, for the 15000v dc electrification, if you look closely you can see stumps of the electrification masts for the overhead catenary, there’s a building at penistone now called lavender ndt, that was the electrical control for the woodhead route

Great film, have walked the GCR route all the way more or less from Hadfield to Aylesbury. The Penistone to Hadfield section I have done twice, one of the most beautiful walks in Britain in my opinion. Fantastic to see it all on your film.thanks

That’s brilliant mate, I think I’ve pretty much done most of the GCR but always worth the second or third look , there’s always something new to see

On the 8th of October 2023 I walked from what was Penistone Goods to Deepcar Junction and all the way back, I am not a regular walker so by the time I got back to my car my feet were aching

There's a fairly big turntable pit near Wolverhampton Station, by the canal as well. Makes you think don't it?
