Part one of new van bed build. Removing those difficult middle seats in our 2016 Ford Transit Connect LWB van and back seat too. Tool used. Let us know if you have any questions and we will try to reply and answer.

The other smaller bit is a T45! I learned that the hard way but this is still the best video I’ve found. Working on my seats today!!!

Thanks for video I was able to remove all seats and put a two deck storage build out in one day I think the part that saved me the most time was buying the torx socket set at home depot and extensions and use my drill to remove bolts Thank you so much!

I would love to afford airplane L channel and attach it to my bare floor then build up my floor around it. They use it in airplanes to hold cargo. A bed could fasten as well as cabinets and a potty. If I had courage to put it on the side walls it would really do the job. But it’s already built out with the factory plastic and I really don’t want to remove that and heat vents. I have secured things to the floor brackets and then used the seat belt holders to secure the tops with zip ties

Thank you so much for the great tutorial. It was a great help! T50 and 15mm fasteners are all there is to this. On my 2019 each of the middle seats was held in by only the 4 - 15 front nuts. Once I pulled the release strap (funny story there) the seats came right out! T50 only in the back row fyi. Great job and thanks again for posting this.

Mine were a pain to get out too. I had to build a new floor. Worth it - now I’m wondering how to get the front passenger seat out.

@miriamhawkins7825 Yes, they don't make it easy. We never put a floor in, would like to though. If you have a video on how you did that please share 🙂 Let me know how the removal of that front seat goes. Thank you for watching and for your comment. Happy travels!

@@EarthWiseMe I took the seats out in 2019 so no video. I removed the rug and took out the shaped thing… then I put in the locking floor rubber and covered the whole thing with coin dot. I put a new floor also covered in coin dot in the lower level and I like having that bit of extra height in my mornings. Getting a curtain between front and back was tough. I made a paper pattern but never made it cloth. It’s held in by some L shaped construction pieces - Velcro on them to hold in place then magnets to hold the curtain. Ikea has flat S hooks I use to hold my rod up above the seat belts and to the back. Works well to hold the black out curtain.

My van has a “step” where the middle seats were. My son helped me remove a whole bunch of metal and I built a floor. I covered the plywood with coin dot. I had to put blocks on the plywood to make it somewhat level but it’s been in since 2019 and no problems. It covers the heating duct work. I can nearly stand up in that area. The plywood was just a 1/2 inch or less scrap.

If you weren't concerned with not being able to put the seats back in some day is it possible to remove the hardware that the seats attach to? To make the area with all the passenger seats totally flat? Do you see what I'm talking about? The little hills that were under the middle row of seats?
@EarthWiseMe
@EarthWiseMe 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I think only way to fix that would be to add a wood floor some how over the hardware. For sure they certainly didn't make it easy for this. I have my bed over one of those hills and on other side where it drops I put a bunch of carpets to cover the hardware and be able to step on them to get in. It's not ideal but works till I can figure out a floor or get something else. Thank you for you question and let me know if you come up with anything, I would be open for any fixes or suggestions you may have.

@@EarthWiseMe I found some videos tonight by Eric enjoys earth - he's awesome. He converted a minivan and didn't put anything in permanently so he could sell it again some day and take his camping stuff out. He had huge tracks and built up his floor around them and somehow hid them so it can be done! I'm torn because I just wanted to sell the seats, not have to store them, and now he has me thinking! Are you keeping yours?
@EarthWiseMe
@EarthWiseMe 2 жыл бұрын
@@sandraatcheson5453 Hum, interesting, I'll check him out. I have four of the seats in my storage taking up space and thinking of selling the back seats. To me they are not worth holding on to and really designed for a child in my opinion. Undecided at this point and have been considering selling all of them. I do have 100K plus miles on my van already. I love the gas mileage on these vans but would like a 6 cly, these vans don't do great on uphill gravel roads and I love the mountains and would like to go to more remote locations. I will definitely check out Eric's videos. Thank you again for sharing and your comment. I'll let you know..

@@EarthWiseMe you may be the first person to address another question I've wondered about. Is yours a 2.0 or 2.5 engine? My family has pushed me to get the 2.5 for the exact reason you're saying but they don't get quite as good a gas mileage. Thanks!
@EarthWiseMe
@EarthWiseMe 2 жыл бұрын
@@sandraatcheson5453 2.5 and it's powerful enough for a 4cly, but was thinking about something to better fit my needs in steep areas and off the beat locations. But very grateful to have this van/her (Talon) I love it! I get pretty decent mileage; 30 on the highway on average and have gotten up to 33 with no AC on and flat hyw driving. Uphill highway about 28 and in the city 24 on average. If you are planning on getting one, you can't go wrong they are great vans. Only thing I would do over is get the cargo style, I think they are built tougher and no issues with floor, etc..can just build from scratch. The inside of the wagons like mine, all the plastic is made cheaply. I do have the titanium version and leather seats, but some of the plastic has broken under and side of seats and I'm very careful and treat it well..My advice is to go with the cargo, insulate and add a floor or carpet to it..much easier in my opinion to alter to ones liking and built tougher all around. Hope this helps. Great luck with your purchase..I hear they last over 300K miles. I am working on getting more videos out and also do a showing of the inside setup. Thank you for your interest, comments, kind words and for watching my videos! Thanks for subscribing! So appreciate you! Big Hugs!

QQ, why did you take out the bolt under the carpet that was cut?
@EarthWiseMe
@EarthWiseMe Жыл бұрын
Originally we didn't know how to remove those middle seats so that was a mistake, the bolts are attached as to not loss them but carpet was cut on the first one, we learned where the bolt was at under the carpet inch wise for the second removal and didn't have to cut that side. Have to remove the bolts to get seats out, but as mentioned they are reattached after we removed the seats. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for your comment.

I have the 2020 version but annoyingly when I removed the 2 rear seats, there are sensors that detect the seatbelts and if these are disconnected, an error appears on the dash. Yours doesn’t have to seem have this seatbelt wiring and sensors on the back 2 - is that right?
@EarthWiseMe
@EarthWiseMe Ай бұрын
Yes, correct, the 2016 doesn't seem to have that sensor. Hope you were able to remove them.
