@nigelallen99333 жыл бұрын
@@ringbrookstrings2868 Add keywords (tags) to the video. You can do this at and/or after upload. They are important to ensure people who are searching for "GGBO21" (and all the variations of that search term) actually get the result returned by KZbin. I would also put "GGBO21" (or whatever Crimson have suggested is the 'official' #) in the actual title for each upload.

Really interesting that you chose forged carbon fiber for a guitar build. Please note that with forged CF it is also possible to mold in the metal inserts that you can use later to install the bridge.
@ringbrookstrings28683 жыл бұрын
I'll probably be making the bridge without any metal parts to keep weight down as I'd like it to be a mostly acoustic instrument, but I love the versatility that composites offer with adding things like metal inserts!

Interesting. I spent years laying up prepreg cf (uni and twills) and kevlar, all oven/autoclave cured. The infusion method is new to me although other than the resin flow mesh and room temp cure resins, the mats are all the same . I'd like to make a kayak one day, infusion looks like the way to go. How about those carbon fiber splinters huh?
@ringbrookstrings28683 жыл бұрын
The carbon splinters are horrible, though still better than glass imo! I'd love to get into prepreg, do you think making my own autoclave would be the way to go? And Infusing a kayak sounds like a very cool project. Just make sure you set up the spiral so resin doesn't have to travel more than 18" or so.

I like the idea of composite and unusual materials in guitar building, and found this video very informative. That forged carbon is stunning! How are you dealing with ventilation? I'm assuming you don't want to breathe in any of the chemicals.
@ringbrookstrings28683 жыл бұрын
Ventilation in the shop is pretty poor until it's warm enough to throw open all the windows. As a result I pretty much live in my respirator any time there's anything stinky around! And yup, definitely do not want to breathe any of this stuff. Hopefully a few years from now I'll be able to build my own shop and make certain there's great ventilation! Until then I try to just do this stuff occasionally.
@geoffwood27123 жыл бұрын
@@ringbrookstrings2868 Be cautious, if you are smelling the gel coat thru your respirator (it's styrene you are smelling) then it is also concentrating in your liver. And please use long-cuff gloves while working with the epoxies, will become a skin irritant around your wrists as splashes get on the skin when brushing it on and even when mixing for infusion. Develops over time but with repeated exposures you can develop this allergic reaction and sanding without gloves and with forearm resting on part contributes to this. Been doing this since 1984, it's safe if you are. Great work!!

What is the spray adhesive you're using to tack the Carbon Fibre in place?
@ringbrookstrings28682 жыл бұрын
I've tried a few different ones, not sure what I was using there, but the best one I've found yet is Krylon's gold leaf adhesive. It's a fine spray with a light bond so it doesn't leave as much residue as many of the others. Also it only really matters on the first layer that will be exposed. For connecting the inner layers you can really use whatever's convenient so long as it's a glue that fully dries.
@xTheZapper3 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised you made the mold out of carbon, most people use fibre glass as it's loads cheaper.
@svgs650r3 жыл бұрын
Tip: A "respirator" is only as good as it's proper use, and if you could smell the VOC's from the gel-coat you were either using the wrong filters or the the filters you were using were saturated and no longer safe to use. Be careful so you can continue to make cool videos
@einarabelc53 жыл бұрын
Good background music choice. Gives an air of seriousness and thoughtfulness rather lacking in most build channels. It helps watch the build rather than fighting it in order to "be cool".
