Part 12: Quartering the Wheels

Welcome to Part 12 of my long term series of videos covering the build of Don Young's Hunslet 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive in 5" Gauge.
In this video I fix the wheels to the axles and show how I have dealt with the quartering.
Given the nature of these sorts of projects, new videos will be posted as I progress through the build but there will be no regular cadence, rather their frequency will be dependent upon time available and of course real progress on my part.

This was a major peeve of mine when the Thomas series went CGI, the wheels were not quartered they always were equal. I know it is a kid show but it got me into trains, especially steam and that just was my "Rivet counter" peeve. Sure you understand

I'd wondered about fixing axles - back in the day it would have been a shrink or press-fit, right? I wasn't sure whether loctite would have done the job but I I'm glad to see it's suitable, it makes everything a little easier!

Hi William, Yes in the old days it would have been press fit although I'm sure many people still do it this way. Loctite 648 is used for significantly tougher jobs in the wider world of Engineering so will more than suffice. Definitely easier for us using Hobby Tools :-)

what size water steam engine would it take to power a simple 2 bedroom dwelling with garage. That an 8 thousand $ worth of solar panels where l live, im done with publics work pretty much, l do have natural gas up to the dwelling.
