Thank you for your videos. Rhodesia was the first real victim of "political correctness" and your series helps put to rest all the lies and distortions we used to read in the mainstream press back in the day. It brings life to the books and puts a face to the words - well done!

This is a fantastic record of the resilience, tenacity, resourcefulness and business acumen that has largrly been lost or conveniently ignored by the outside world. They find it far too easy to be critical and condemning of the white Africans efforts to build a nation not that we were perfect and got everything right. It was and is so crucial in developing a sustainable nation. It is remarkable how responsibilities businesses like yours took in creating real good and progressive jobs to the ordinary man on the street as you clearly had a loyal and motivated work force with oppurtunities. It is clear that the Dairy Industry was a passion for you too. I was born on a research farm out at Mazoe where my father helped establish the Dairy unit there. I have been involved in the Milking equipment industry for the last 23 years so this podcast has been a real eye opener and really enjoyed it thank you....take care

Thank you 🙏 It was very upsetting for my parents when they were forced to hand over the business under affirmative action. The new ZANU-PF owner terrorised the staff with a hand gun. Many of them left and a year later, the business became a car repair place. They will be more about this in future videos.

Just out of interest... the farms shown in the video were Sinabar (Ray Evans), Brown’s dairy just outside of Salisbury and our own farm out at Mount Hampden (15 miles outside Salisbury). Both Ray Evans and Brown’s dairies were 24 point milking machines.

Great to hear from you! My parents had the franchise for a number of milking machine equipment manufacturers. In the 1980’s they imported Surge equipment from America. I had a quick look and I see it became Westfalia Surge, then GEA Westfalia Surge. In the 1990’s and early 2000’s, they also had the franchise for Fullwood and Gascoigne. During the war, there was no money to import equipment. The only Alfa Laval agents in the country went bankrupt because of the sanctions against Rhodesia. My father was a brilliant engineer and created the Lactomatic milkers which was made with original out of the box thinking and was made from locally sourced materials.

Am I correct in saying Delaval somehow sold a Rotary system to Sally or Grace Mugabe on what used to be Glenarra Estates that they took over?.....Your cows in that video looked fantastic full blooded Holsteins.....what bloodlines did the herd come from? Take care

@@karlrandall6346 Hi Karl, Apologies for the late reply... Its been a busy few weeks and then I had difficulty in finding your comment. Wow! We had no idea that Grace Mugabe took over Glenara Estates! Its hard to believe that where I grew up as a child was so close to the farm take overs! My mother remembers that Grace and Mugabe took over 19 of the best farms. We just remember Glenara being run by Oppenheimer. My sister (who you see in the other videos on this channel) spent a lot of time at Glenara. She learnt all her veterinary skills there. I forget the names at the moment, but I’ll ask her later today. She now lives in the Dominican Republic. I had no idea they put in a rotary system, but it was a Fullwood system that Stakold had installed. Thank you for your observations regarding the cattle. My father purchased a Canadian Bull from Ray Evens. He was very proud of having the bull!! But he eventually sold him to a company that does artificial insemination. The latest series of videos (Stolen Lives - Part 1 of 5) covers what eventually happened to the farm. Thanks for all your support on the channel…

@@CapturingMemories Great to hear from you.....I will try to find out more about what Delaval installed there. The name Ray Evan's seems to ring bells but will check with my father. Although I think you are doing a fantastic job chronicaling the history of your family and love waiting for the next installment it is with great sadness. I say that because of all the lives negatively affected by the inevitability of what is to come....I have friends still there whose family farm was taken in the first wave and then to rub salt into the wound when their daughter and son in law took out a mortgage to start an Ostridge and award winning Protea farm on extremely marginal land in the early 90's then had to go through that being stripped from them. My Godfathers son after working so hard as an agronomist after leaving university to gather and put down a deposit on a farm in the early 90's....once going he then reinvested and took out additional loans to build curing barns etc.... again his young family were forced off having been compensated zero and forced to pay the workforce a super redundancy. Both families continue to strive raising their families in Zim and somehow keep going now living in the city and still finding new ventures putting their skills to marketing produce around the world, teaching and keeping as many as they can in work....I just hope one day the negative perspective the polarised elite view the contributions of minority, lighter skinned citizens see past the rubbish indoctrinated in them.....thankfully I hope you are now safe and well and have it seems found brighter horizons to aim for as a family...take care

I received my field Ranger certificate in 2018 at Hoedspruit kruger and as a Dutch citizen already knew about the Boer wars and there ties with Holland. Much later I heard about the tragic tale of Rhodesia and it has captured me ever since, especially since South Afrika has spiraled down in the same way. The songs , the people and its struggle for survival while being boycotted by countries who didn't understand what they where rejecting and what they where supporting. White settlers being blamed for everything when in fact they modernized the countries, build up economy's and brough prosperity to tribal lands that was riddled with wars since it was found. And when they left, the country went back in time and imploded all for that dictator Mugabe. Now they still preach the same nonsense, you really think any wild life would be left if all white Africans would leave. I am still haunted by the idea that i should have stayed in South Afrika, during my time at Ranger school i had much more in common with the mind set of my teachers then the students. I know that I could be more of use there preserving and fighting for the safety and beauty of the continent then live in safety but without purpose in Holland. Thank you for sharing your story.

Farmers like this were, in some cases, given four hours to move off their farms when Mugabe got into office. They are now derelict and everyone is a victim. Yet the Brits pushed us to surrender to him. Thank you for such a lovely presentation. How brave you were; the salt of the Earth. And a time is coming very rapidly, where all evil is going to be judged.

May I suggest "Capturing Memories" is put in the front of every title. This one would then read "Capturing Memories: Challenges in serving the farming community - Rhodesian bush war". The stories are sub-sets of the theme "Capturing Memories" and the algorithms will get better traction to find new viewers. It also gives a constant and consistent heading to your work, which is excellent.

HM Government required a proper democratic stance as a foundational value for Rhodesia in order to avoid a 2nd racial discriminating South Africa. White Minority Regime was the original sin. A in government elected African Nationalist Party in shared democratic values would may have listenend to the preceding government ruling Rhodesia sharing and improving well-established rhodesian prosperity. While this also can't be guaranteed. The historical chosen path lead to the historically known result. Disgrace, corruption, failure, racist resentments, racist retaliation towards the white minority, economic decline, hopelessness, dictatorship and all the destruction, disregard of human life and death. DUI manifested what it tried to avoid. Certainly this is horrendous historical hindsight. But demographic struggle was unavoidable. DUI conveniently disregarded that. All the death just to waste away what a modern prosperous Zimbabwe could be. I don't want to point fingers, both demographics mindlessly chose decline. One side out of arrogance the other of blind anger. Otherwise I very much see the opportunity Rhodesia was so destined to gain. She very much held all the means to should have become a bright example of success of a unified modern african nation, destined to shame South Africa. All wasted away.
