Yes explaining the etymology is of great assistance to English speakers cos we don't use measure words in English so it's hard to understand what the need for them is. At least this explains where they come from. Continue to include word history in your videos please.

Chinese question: I was wondering the zi (子 )radical meaning? Like in 包子 , 桌子, 房子? It seems to mean “stuff” or “thing” but dictionary says “child” or “son”.

yes it means child or son, but it has another function, working as a suffix. no solid meaning, just to form a word. 😋

your question is very interesting, yes still tiao, no matter how fat and short the leg is, or how fat the snake is , and the river as you said, their length is still longer than the width, still tiao.

and measure words are used after numbers, like 一条蛇，三个人， and after 这， 那。 eg. 这条蛇， 那个人。
