I made this two years ago. I used ,4" schedule 20 PVC pipe.. my cage is 10x12 and is a lil heavy but still ok. I believe that I will make two more out of 2x2 treated lumber this time. It will be much lighter

Awesome. I used 3 inch to save on price but 2 inch would not have been strong enough IMO

Jackson is very sweet and, judging by his eyes, he is a very smart kid. His mother is a very beautiful young woman and his father is a very handsome young man. From Turkey, I send Jackson's mama end papa my my regard. And I send my love to Jackson with a big kiss. There is no cover on the open mouths of the 2 90-degree elbows at the connection point of the 3-inch pipes on the lower floor. In rainy weather, water will fill in those elbows with open mouths and the weight of the chicken tractor will increase. You need to put covers on those holes.

Thanks for the detailed videos on this tractor. I am looking to build my own for spring meat chickens. How did you end up doing the roof door? Also, I see your latest video was 6 months ago. We have been posting videos for exactly a year and was wondering if it is worth it to continue. New subscriber either way. Thanks and God bless!

Hi, we had several family issues happen in the last several months but will be back making videos soon. As far as the door, I just used a couple wood blocks as a weight and slid the metal instead of using hinges. It worked great.

Just a suggestion - You might want to make a 3" feeder that plugs into the UN-used T socket that could pop up through the roof, and the same for water on the other T : )

Poultry netting, fancy name for chicken wire. Did the metal roof get too hot in the sun and how did you manage to get them out of there?

Just a comment on your chicken tractor.do you leave the chickens out all night or do you luck them up at nights . I don't think that would work here where I am . We have a lot of weasels & possums that would go onder the wire or the frame.
@rockyhollowhomestead5827
@rockyhollowhomestead5827 2 жыл бұрын
We do leave those out at night. We are in the country and have not had any trouble with leaving them out just yet. Time will tell. Thanks for watching.

a small scale solar charger sitting on top w/insulated supply wire running down a vertical support and then tap in offset insulators around the bottom. Push in T style ground rod, so it is all mobile/. That will get you through unless soil gets too dry for a smaller push in grounding system to work well. We run livestock guardian dogs with ours but I've done this in the past with good success. Just need to be done with them before the season dries out. This usually times well anyway of you are trying to time for pasture poultry. We time everything to take advantage of the big spring-early summer flush or forage and then process to get numbers back into line with resources as the season evolves.

@@deanlewis1650 I think the pipe size is the coast factor, reduce and save. I would experiment with 2" or maybe even 1.5". With a heat box or even a torch, PVC can be bent, flattened, or expanded to couplings and 90's. PVC can also be ground up, melted and cast into what ever angle or shape one might need. making panels in square or rectangular shapes would be cheaper and more vestal. I think even having a more flexible structure would be a plus up in the hill country where the ground isn't always flat. I think though the Tractor Idea will pay for itself in no time. Now if you can make the thing move itself around the yard by itself you will be rocking : )

My concept is a 20x20 at 2 feet height using 1.5" pvc.. roofing is recycled coke cans for the shingles.. And U shaped stakes to anchor it down as well as anchoring small strips of fence around the outside of pen to prevent digging predators.. The roof weight is around 5 ta 10 pounds compared the heavier corrugated sheets most often used.. and the frame will be around 100 pounds.. 1.5 inch pvc weight is 0.51 pounds per linear foot so even with a 400 square foot pen a person should be able to push it with light to moderate effort
