My Anique dealer here in AZ uses 409 to clean silver. Do NOT spray directly on the piece (I’m using a candle stick turned oil, turned Electric), on the parts that may have too much tarnish. I personally love the tarnish in real silver. Use a soft cloth & spray with 409 then wipe with a damp cloth, the dry w/another soft cloth. This works for me but my pieces are quite a bit larger.

Hi Marilyn. That was a really interesting video. My favourite cleaning tip: I put my real 18k/14k gold, diamond and sapphire jewellery in a glass of warm water with a denture cleaning tablet. Makes them really sparkle again. However, this only works on real gold and hard gemstones as it will damage everything else, especially softer stones like turquoise or pearls. I never use this method on anything else. Have a great weekend!

If vertigree has already started to destroy the metal, I sometimes use jewelry makers grade sandpaper. Pitted metal cannot be replaced, but at least the sandpaper can give you a smooth surface again.

I will look into it. I generally don't. But I do have a Weiss Rhinestone brooch that has Verdigris on the prongs. I do Have to clean. Or are you meaning to remove and clean the Rhinestones themselves?

Wonder about trying simichrome polish on that goldtone heart? Would be a real Hail Mary but, if the piece is already lost, might try it on

The Simichrome just made it smear darker. Very strange reaction. But good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello!! Have clean lots of jewelry bc, I always like it to always look it’s best. Do you use baking soda for cleaning jewelry?? Have use on silver jewelry. Just plain baking soda little water and cloth. Love your information. Thanks for sharing.

I don't. As it can be a little abrasive. But I might give it a go on your recommendation. Thanks for watching!

Hi Marilyn! Great info last week and this week as well! I learned alot! It's too bad the blue ceramic brooch was so far gone. I have to find the ring with the pitting! Can't remember where I put it. I was wondering if you know of something you can put over rhinestones so they don't fall out but doesn't change their appearance too much? I tried clear nail polish but it yellows them! There is so much jewelry that have many small rhinestones that are glued in . It seems you just look at them and they fall out!
@shadyny
@shadyny 2 жыл бұрын
E6000 glue is the best Rhinestone glue in my opinion. But with time it might turn. I just haven't seen it do it yet. And always be sure to not get the glue on anything but the back if possible. Good luck finding your ring.

Thanks for the info on the E 6000 . I will get some but I was wondering is there anything you know of that can be brushed on the top of the rinestones to hold them in so they don't fall out?

Miriam Haskell pieces seem to be especially prone to verdigree. Their faux pearls do not do well over time either. Very hard to find good pieces still.

You can, but that doesn't kill the verdigris. So just add the additional step of vinegar to finish it off. Thank you for watching!
