This is a good method to put together a simple water from air system. Good video. I would not have put a hole in the jug’s cap, especially if you plan on using the jug for storage. Just take the cap off and fill the bottle. Then cap it and find another bottle or water brick to store more water.

These filters do not remove floride although Berkey does make separate floride filters. Also this is not cleaner than distilled water although the water coming from the de-humidifyer is distilled. Heating water vapor then condensing it is the basis of distillation. All in all this is a great simple AWG.

Trash the garden hose and use a drinkable hose like Camco EvoFlex 4-Foot Super Flexible Drinking Water Hose At the end of your hose that dumps into the water gallon, attach a filter , carbon or use a .01 micron cloth filter Here’s my setup: A dehumidifier with steel coils that goes into a water distiller , once the distiller tank reaches full, it turns on and then runs through a .01 micron filter then into a 8 gallon stainless steel tank with timed scheduled UV lights btw , there’s no such thing as cleaner then distiller water. all filters do is capture contaminates BUT you have water that has to pass through the junk. Distillers separate, this is the ultimate goal. sorry wrong again , you want pure water, get your minerals from food NOT from water, you WILL NOT die from drink distilled water , my family drinking distiller fir over 12 years

Can you tip the water in the collection tray at the back into bottles or would the water be tainted by the plastic of the water collection tray?
@NewportStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ani, I would not recommend using the tank that comes with the dehumidifier for a few reasons. The plastic tray is not made “BPA Free”. This doesn’t sound bad at first, but if you take a deeper dive into plastics used, you can find that most plastics that aren’t BPA Free can include a chemical used in the manufacturing of certain plastics, called “bisphenol A”. According to “Medical News Today”, this type of chemical has been linked to a whole host of cardiovascular problems like coronary artery heart disease, hypertension, heart attack, angina, and more. I am not a medical provider in any sense of the imagination, but I wouldn’t risk it. It’s too simple and cost effective to purchase a BPA free hose and bottle.

I am confused, if you make distilled water, why would you need to filter it?
@zedmeinhardt3404 Жыл бұрын
This isn't distilled, it is condensed from the air. If you don't filter dehumidifier water, you get to drink all the dust that was in the air too. Also, be cautious with this setup, some radiators (where this water is condensing) have lead solder which can leech into the water as it drips off.

People, please don't drink water produced by dehumidifiers!!! Their coils (the parts that condense water) don't have a food‑grade coating. And some coils are even coated with bactericides and mold reducing compounds which are highly toxic if ingested. I am putting this comment on all of the videos in this series to raise awareness.
@terrafirma93282 жыл бұрын
Where did you get your info? If the coils are aluminum it could be bad because too much aluminum is toxic in the human body. Copper would be better, the body uses a certain amount of copper.

@@jett888 I would filter the dehumidified water to reduce the contaniments. Distill it, reverse osmisis, sand and carbon filters. Look into extraction processes of excessive aluminum or copper contamination in water if you go this route. Obviously this is only necissary if other water sources are too expensive or polluted or not accessable and for drinking, cooking potable water. Shower and bathing water is secondarily necessary to filter as it is in contact with skin that absorbs. Thirdly, water for cleaning needs less filtration but is still important as clothes and dishes need to be clean, finally toilet water can be reused grey water.

One day I bought a rubber hose to fill the coffee tank and to my amazement, the rubber hose took away the strong bitter taste in the coffee!! A nylon hose ruins the taste of water! I noticed that you were using a nylon hose, NOT GOOD!
@leslielandberg5620 Жыл бұрын
That's hilarious. Few will agree with you, but I will. It may not be healthy at all, but the synthetics in the rubber are petrol based, which has a high nitrogen content, which makes it sweet. Rubber, being a resin, has the same properties. It may not be good for you in the long run, but it tastes good. I recommend braided steel. This is why conventionally grown produce often tastes better, too. Petroleum based fertilizer makes them taste sweeter. I eat the organic for health reasons but it doesn't taste better, sadly.

You can get very ill from water poisoning if you drink too much distilled water, this includes evaporation water. The water from dehumidifiers is definitely not drinkable but ok for washing dishes and showering in. This concept is well suited to off-grid living especially if the unit is driven from solar cells and an inverter and therefore free to operate.
