2nd April 1976 ‘Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited’ (KIOCL) was formed under Ministry of Steel and Mines. Political upheaval in Iran resulted in expulsion of Iranian Government which placed the project in jeopardy. Hence Government took initiative to finance the completion of Project. The 7.5 million ton annual capacity project at Kudremukh along with the 110 km slurry pipeline and filtration units at Mangalore was completed in August 1980. As Iran failed to lift the Iron ore KIOCL had to look for alternate markets and also for setting up Pellet plant at Mangalore. The Pellet Plant had started its operation at Mangalore on April 1987.
The Magnetite Iron Ore concentrate mined and beneficiated at the captive mines of Kudremukh was used for Pellet making for more than three decades till Decemebr 2005. KIOCL stopped its mining operations at Kudremukh with effect from 1st January 2006 in pursuant to Hon’ble Supreme Court’s Judgement, as the area was declared National Park.

I was born at kiocl company hospital till 5th STD I did my schooling at kV kudremukh...,.now I'm doctor wrkng at Mangalore.......I had wonderful child hood at kudremukh,.......... nostalgic

My father was working in KIOCL appointed from CISF. I studied here from1979 to 1982 in Girjyothi school & Kendriya Vidyalaya. Now I'm staying in Bangalore.ಕುದುರೆ ಮುಖದ ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಈ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ಅಳು ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ನಾನು ಆಡಿ ಬೆಳೆದಂತ ಜಾಗಗಳು, ನಾವು ವಾಸವಿದ್ದ ಇವಾಗ ಪಾಳುಬಿದ್ದ quarters ಪಾಳುಬಿದ್ದ ರಾಧಾಕೃಷ್ಣ temple ,ಎಲಿಪ್ಯಾಡ್ ಅನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ತುಂಬಾ ಬೇಜಾರಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.I love U Kudremukh I really miss U.

Very good video showing KIOCL Quarters, Shopping complex, Radhakrushna temple, Helipad & Administrative Offices Building of KIOCL. Kudremukh was a very good place with all facilities. There was also Sampath Bhavan, Lord Shiva Temple, Kendriya ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ, ಕೆನರಾ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್, SBI, Lakhya Dam, 164 Units Quarters, monsoon Stock Pile, Crushers, Silos, Conveyor Belt in construction site, slurry pipeline from Kudremukh to Mangalore. I was working there. I am thankful & grateful to KIOCL.

What a irony ? They closed Kudremukha mines in the year 2005 saying it is polluting . But today large area of forests coming under Kudremukha National Park are destroyed for making roads, facilitate illegal expansion of coffee and tea estates owned by big wigs. An illegal road has been made from Samse near Kudremukha to Didupe near Beltangadi in Dakshina district , no environmentalist is bothered. Hundreds of acres of evergreen, virgin forest were destroyed for Yettinahole project yet no one is bothered.

ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ನಿಲುಗಡೆ ಸರಾಸರಿ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ100 ಗಂಟೆ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿ ಇರುತಿತ್ತು. ಹಾಗು ಲೋಡ್ ನಿರ್ಬಂಧವೂ ಬೇಸಿಗೆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತಿತ್ತು. ಕಡಿಮೆ ವೋಲ್ಟೇಜ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಇರುತಿತ್ತು.

Kudremuk can be revived by Auctioning it to Big private Real estate companies so as to set up software companies and do away with mining activities and make it Hub for Software multinational corporations 😊my honest opinion hope someone take note of my message

Yes it is a viable option. The township has almost all basic infrastructure for even modern companies need. It's saddening to see this beautiful well built township goes into ruins. It might happen if our elected members of parliament mind.

none of the govts has ever bothered to revive the grandeur of old Kudremukh for tourism either by themselves or by giving the dilapidated houses to private tourism developers either on rent or on ownership.Kudremukh is one of the most neglected places in Karnataka

This place now comes under Kudremukha National Park area. Commercial activities like mining, manufacturing , business are prohibited . Either they have to take Supreme Court permission or ammend law , which is not easy. Also I heard that high voltage electricity transmission towers supplying electricity has been removed as per govt's agreement to get forest clearance to Bangalore Metro , some sort of mutual barter.
