Coleman Young was mayor for 20 years. Detroit became a damn ghetto and unlike Pittsburgh, the mayor pivoted to new businesses to locate there to bring jobs when the steel industry died. Detroit has become a great city due primarily from adjusting to the new reality the auto industry has mostly abandoned the city but new businesses have located there and people are moving back. Detroit is back.
