Part 2 of building a livestock rock drinking pad on farm pond. Johnny finished the first rock drinking pad on our pond in 45 minutes. The second pad across the pond took 40 minutes. The cattle will certainly enjoy having a nice firm surface to drink from. We will certainly be rewarded by improved livestock performance and preserving the quality of our pond ecosystem.

Thanks for the video! It looks awesome. Johnny is doing a fantastic job. I hope you get more rain too. We got 4/10” the other day. We should be getting rain tonight and tomorrow too. It warmed up again around 77 for the high today. I would love to build a pond sometime too but I might just run an above ground piping along the fence line though.

@gregjudyregenerativerancher - great work on protecting these riparian areas; do you think a similar concept could help quail habitat through the use of dry land exclusion zones on ranches in Texas?

Greg, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. It has helped more than you know. A question for you if you have the time. In early spring, when bringing cattle onto a pasture to graze stockpiled grass while this year’s growth is coming on, how do you ensure that you don’t inhibit this year’s growth too much?

Give the cattle larger areas and move them quicker. Try to leave 6-7” of leaf area un grazed when you move to next paddock strip.

How will you increase the size of your herd to graze the new acreage? Buy new animals or sell fewer calves?

I'd go ahead and have Johnny distribute that mud into those gulley's you've got there close. Probably cheaper than you bringing your tractor over there later and spending your time.

Greg if a person has a lake such as 6 acres in size, how far apart should rock skirts be from one another on the lake?
@gregjudyregenerativerancher
@gregjudyregenerativerancher Ай бұрын
On a lake that size, 4 skirts would be plenty.

Greg, I am looking for the type of metal crimps you use on tying polybraid together. Went to Lowes, couldnt find anything similar. Can you tell me name, type, size you use, where to buy? Thank you.
