Another great interview Mike. Tony is a class act. As for the CB I don’t think it’s dead myself as I use mine everyday. Plenty guys still using them if you ask a truck passing where he’s headed or just simply tell him come on back in you’ll get a reply most times. You be safe now driver and we’ll catch you another way another day.

Hi Mike I really enjoy the interviews with Tony , being the same age as myself and second generation driver i totally relate to what he has to say . We don’t use AM CB radios here in Australia anymore , we use UHF radios which can be up to 80 channels , not that the new school seem to use them much i think they just ring there mates and no one else knows what happening on the road . 👍

Hi Mike. Am I missing something about the CB's? If you are using a Connex CB in your current truck and he's running a Stryker 955 10 meter radio, how could you talk to him? Normal CB radios such as a Cobra 29, etc. are in the 11 meter band. Thank you for doing the interviews. Real time as it flows is great.

We don’t use CBs we have VHF radios with preset channels (frequencies) One channel I’m on is the common channel every excavation company uses. Then we have a local channel and the company I work for we have our own channel to keep the air waves clear when we have things to say that no one else needs to hear. Yeah you’ll have your trials and tribulations with your new truck. The emissions truck I had to deal with was a 2013 Western Star with a DD13. The regen bullsh*t the truck wouldn’t regen, try force it to regen it wouldn’t do it. It’s not in my nature to run a truck hard I always use momentum on the hills I never had my foot into it the truck is an automatic 6spd. Constantly dealing with the def fluid as the tank couldn’t hold a full 2 jugs it was 1.5. The I’d forget about the def and it’s dinging at you once it gets low the truck loses its marbles. Not sure what the new Cummins are like for power, we have a T800 same year as your old W900 same Cummins. I don’t like driving it the Cummins power band sucks. My Kenworth has a little 10.3 litre Cat it pulls like a Cat it’s predictable power. The Cummins it’s hit or miss. I’m sure you’ll get used to your new singer sewing machine.

I agree with Tony, ELD's are the downfall of the trucking industry as well as poor truck driver training. It's a tough enough job and lifestyle without being up against the clock, the clock constantly ticking has created an environment of drivers driving tired and faster than they need to but with that said, paper logs weren't much better where drivers did corrective logging.
