Im not a fan of Thorens turntables. I prefer Dual 1219. I restore 2 to 3 turntables per week. I avoid working on Thorens turntables. Humm is a huge problem.

That satin look of polatter is like new, these were NEVER polished as new! So this blingbling is just a new genre of, well blingbling.... But I admit, it is an upgrade, it took never before this much fingerprints that it does after blingblinged!

I am firm believer that if the Swiss designed the springs with foam inserts, paying money to procure them (and by extension increase their production cost), then there is a reason they designed it like that. Throwing them out is not something I am comfortable with. (just my two cents worth)

I have to remove the old face plate and get a new black metal face on my TD-160 and a rosewood armboard for my TD-160. Use contact cement

Yuo have to let new bright dry then buff of the dark black off to start then wax

Hello, nice series you have going here. I stumbled upon a TD 160 myself, after I've set it up and turned it on, upon increasing the volume on the amp a bit I got a buzzing noise regardless if the platter was spinning or not, the more volume the louder the buzzing got. Do you maybe have an idea whats wrong? As far as I see the RCA cables were replaced but they look very cheap, could they be the issue here?

Thank you sooo much for these vids on the Thornes TD160. I recently picked one up and am in the process of 're-newing' it. I have a couple of questions: was wondering if ATF would be a good lube. Better or worst that sewing machine oil? Do you keep the dust cover as a general rule? Maybe only have it on when not playing records? Springs: Is there a test to see if they need to be replaced? I watched the video where you cleaned them but was wondering if there was a way to determine if they needed to be replaced (or not). Sorry if you answered these questions in your vids...you could just reference which vid you talk to these issues. Thank you again for all of these videos! Very helpful!

So testing from my tone arm to my rca jacks revealed cross talk between the two ground plates. Is the fix then to go down the line and figure out where they are touching and replace or fix that separation?

Thanks so much for this video, ordered some polish and will begin as soon as I get it. I can’t get the center platter up off the turntable to lube it, is there something I need to do or loosen first?

Great series! I have a TD 160 that had been in the garage for 20 years. I've got it up and running. Your videos have been a Great help. I am getting drop out of the left channel. It fails the continuity test from tonearm to the RCA connectors on only the left channel. I will replace the connectors. Can you recommend a source for them?

Question, can I do the same process to shine up the original top plate? How would you recommend cleaning and shining that?

Nice work! I you had taken the time to remove the springs lalala, why didn’t you replace all of that stuff? Vinyl Nirvana has what you need. Love the tinkering. Also once you get that platter edge polished up you’ll love it.

Would it be advisable to change the wires holding the RCA leads also ? Is this a difficult process ?
