Allot of oeople dont like working on these cars, but for me not only is it a dream come true but also my passion. Hopefully I can find another project like a 72 or something.

Nicely done. That’s BIG job, not at all easy, but very necessary when the parts are worn.

Thanks for the vid. Side note, I had to remove one shim from R inner and R outer to compensate for new wider Poly bushing and hardware. Make sure you remove an equal amount of shim from either side to center the arm.

good video Sir, do you have some advice how to remove the pivot bolt when it is really stuck in the bore. My car has non slotted toe shims which aren`t removable as long the bolt is present
@lugnut26122 жыл бұрын
Need to have this done soon,what is the going rate for labor for a job like this
@satelite3839 жыл бұрын
I just watched it over again and you already explained it, sawing through the shims . That`s gonna be a nightmare, my car is on Jackstands. Did you ever install a currie Johnny joint instead of rubber bushings ?
@Motorinc-ul4mp4 жыл бұрын
Mine was the worst. The bolts came out with a mild beating. The frame holes were elongated. I had to make up new reinforcement plates and weld them on the frame before I was able to install the rebuilt arms. Inspect yours for that kind of wear. Nice video.

Good point. Thanks for posting.

If the shims are rusted and need to be cut out, how can the proper thickness of the shims be determined when replacing with new ones? Please, and thank you!

I'm doing an on the frame restoration, Is this a good time to take out the rear end to rebuild?
@ckstaff5 жыл бұрын
I expected the worse, taped my door and everything. Those 45 year old bolts popped right out even easier than what this looked, ( the long bolts holding trailer arm to car). Hardest for me was the driver side shock mount, don't ever want to do that again.
@tomrusso73605 жыл бұрын
Excellent demonstration of trailing arm removal. Looks like the only special tool was to remove the strut rod from the shock mount? BTW, how many miles on that demo Corvette rearend?
@aboutmyfathersbusiness83245 жыл бұрын
I used a punch to remove the shock mount from the strut rod. If you have a southern car, minimal rust, it will come apart fairly easily.
@DavidAlkemaTheKid8 жыл бұрын
Awesome video, I only had shims on the outside of the right rear trailing arm though, is this normal or did I lose some?
@aboutmyfathersbusiness83245 жыл бұрын
Your primary assembly might not have needed it. New poly bushings are much wider and you may have to lose a few shims to center it to the car.

Where can I get a spindle knocker to remove the strut rod? Excellent video, thanks.
@jeromestcharles76807 жыл бұрын
Celeste Rance corvette parts suppliers have them.
@casanovaevren8 жыл бұрын
Gary does it matter how u put back half shaft to the spindle rotationwise?
@aboutmyfathersbusiness83245 жыл бұрын
I don't think it matters. They are both balanced.

How do you remove the bushings in a trailing arm? I’m working on a 1975C3
@aboutmyfathersbusiness83245 жыл бұрын
I used a cutoff wheel between the rubber and outer metal bushing. Just cut through and it falls apart.
