They are getting ready to dismantle a 1.35-mile stretch of the railroad. The line will be moved a little to the north in the worse areas and 4 retaining walls will be built to counter erosion. Then a whole new section of track will be built! It's a $38.5 million contract! The largest contract awarded so far. Work will be completed by the fall of 2024.#pomerleau
Caplan to Port-Daniel-Gascons
2022 was a busy year for the rehabilitation of the section between Caplan and Port-Daniel-Gascons. Many projects have been added to the work already underway, namely:
reconstruction of the railway bridge over Chemin du Quai and Leblanc Creek in Saint-Siméon;
rehabilitation of the bridge over the Bonaventure River in Bonaventure;
rehabilitation of the bridge over the Shigawake River in Shigawake;
rehabilitation of the Port-Daniel Little River Bridge in Port-Daniel-Gascons;
the relocation of a 1.4-kilometre section of the existing railway line in Port-Daniel-Gascons.
The year 2023 is likely to follow the same momentum, as three new calls for tenders have already been launched, in recent weeks, to undertake work as early as this summer.
The first involves repairing the Paspébiac River and Saint-Godefroi River bridges in Hope Town, and the second is repairing the bridge over the Saint-Siméon River in Saint-Siméon and the structures overlooking Cullens Creek and Day Creek in Bonaventure.
The section is scheduled to open in 2024.
Section 3: Port-Daniel-Gascons to Gaspé
In parallel with the completion of work on the first two sections, the Ministère is continuing its planning for the rehabilitation of the section between Port-Daniel-Gascons and Gaspé.
The current design will determine the nature of the work as well as the timeline. These elements will be clarified in spring 2023.#Pomerleau
