The gun he gave him was not fake. It was actually meant for self defence as his son was dealing with actually dangerous goons and what if he is not around to protect him. He signaled before he could take a shot because the gun had actual bullets.

Fun Fact for Jaby and Brandon: Rajnikanth and Ramya Krishnan (the actress who plays his wife in the movie) have previously starred together in 1999 film called Padayappa (which Andrew and Imtiaz did a movie reaction almost a year and a half ago). In that movie, Ramya Krishnan played Rajnikanth’s enemy, where she tried to impress him and win over at first, but when Rajnikanth rejected her due to her evil selfish and arrogant attitude (and of course choosing someone else over her), then yes she became his enemy, which kinda lead to affect their next generation (aka their grandkids) in the movie. However, in this movie, when we see both of them together as Husband and Wife, it’s like I am seeing the alternate reality version of Padayappa 😅 where they’re married but with some afterffects and consequences 😅. And remember in Part 2 of the reaction, where you guys saw how Rajnikanth dealt with the assassins at home, when they came to kill him and his family, who’re more “traumatized” to see his man in action mode, well on seeing that sequence, I addressed the wife and be like: “this is what happens when you chose to marry someone like him, woman. It’s way too late to back away now 😅” . It’s my way of telling her never underestimate Rajnikanth 😅👍🏻

Another interesting fact about the actress is that, like Padayappa film, she also did a similar arrogant and evil character in a 1996 Bollywood film called Chaahat (which means “Desire” in Hindi), where she plays a tycoon’s younger sister forcing Shah Rukh Khan (very famous Bollywood actor, aka SRK) to love her, but she too gets rejected as SRK falls in love with someone else in the movie 😅. But on the other hand though, Ramya Krishnan is known for her other (and of course most iconic) famous role as Queen Shivagami from S.S. Rajamouli’s Bahubaali film series (starring Prabhas), which already Steph and Andrew did a movie reaction on.

Is it a revenge movie really? Maybe initially, but it soon became a quest for surbival as Jailer time and again tries to cut a deal and get the villain to walk away from his family. The arrogant guy does not learn from his failures and time and time again tries to harm the family just as he does with others including his henchmen. Rescue becomes Jailers motivation when he learns that his son is alive while also finally deciding to eliminate the villain when is a constant threat to his family.

Rajni could have just killed the Varman character right after when he dials a number and shows Rajni's son in his trap. Rajni could have just tracked the number and found the son's location with all the connections he got. And the second half showing how much he could go faking the crown etc etc setup just to get to the son could have be nothing. But they sort of didn't wanted to press on that interval scene and moved on and many sort of don't realise that.
