Great series of videos.. Cheers from Ketchikan, Alaska.. I for one am in the 20 knot peak range (armstrong perf 935 mast, 780 ha v2/180 stab).. If others are stuck at 29 kn I assume i can improve on that speed with a little more knowledge.. Thanks again for the great content, and also for keeping it positive in the comments..

@@AkSeapilot hey , wow that’s a long reach right over there in Alaska, don’t envy you guys in the winter but much respect to my cold water friends, our next video (should come out today or tomorrow) is about he hand held wings and how super important it it that this piece of kit keeps the nose of the board down at speed. Thanks for watching, we have a bunch of videos lined up, If we get wind I will do some tech videos , one of those will be gybing full tilt !!

@@SPEEDWINGFOILING Great.. i will watch for it.. Imagine your winging isn't any warmer than mine in winter.. I made it to Oct 26 one winter without gloves. 3 hours in 10-40knots.. called it for the season and last year got to nov 26 with gloves before i threw in the towel until feb 15. I have gone through quite a lot of gloves and in the words of U2, i still haven't found what i'm searching for.

@@AkSeapilot Dock foiling is the new church at the moment , what a difference it makes to your total board control , started late December 23, cracked it in late January 24, ice and frost all around but totally worth it, we are thinking of doing a Dock foil video, not like the others out there, I have three cheat codes that will help the journey massively , I managed it in a very short time in the drapes winter. Wing foiling in the cold . A harness is a must piece of equipment , tell me you are using one of those ?? No arm pump , better grip and all round better , the issue with wing foiling in the cold is the wind chill of going fast , people don’t factor that in. Thanks for your support
@AkSeapilot6 ай бұрын
@@SPEEDWINGFOILING Absolutely on the harness, i live on the beach (rocky one) - not sure where i could set up to do a dock start foil practice, but it would be great for flat water. At this point i cannot pump indefinitely or for a long period of time without some wave or something.. A jetski or something to pull up and release on flat water and stay up as long as possible would be good. I will look forward to that video as well.. we do have some docks that might work for dock starts around town.. I assume would be a good thing to try with a friend to get rest every once in a while.

Fully agree 100% with all statements in video 1,2 and 3, especially about wingspan, stab winglets and mast length. On thing I never considered is cold water, never noticed a difference but I'm not at 30kts yet so maybe that's why😅. 51kmh now, with gong ypra-S 600 and 800 and the hm107.

@@Flenderr you are pushing the limits of what can be done on a wing so the water tent actually pays a part in it. I am Keen to see every one who wants to get to the magical 30 get there.

I noticed that in freshwater (reservoir) there is less lift from the foil, a bit harder to get up, it's always about 5C colder than the sea but I can go faster probably because it's flat with no currents, chop or underwater turbulence. Don't have much opportunity to go out in flat see but would love to see the difference. I used to have a Ypra-S S but didn't get on with it, high stall speed and very unstable, maybe needed more time on the water and the right conditions. But with 500 Dlab it's different for some reason, low stall speed and quite stable despite having lower aspect ration. 51kmh is almost 28 knots so it's very fast. It's a kind of barrier before 30 knots. Keep pushing!

Hi, what's the fastest Dutoneone foil available ? The smallest Carve 2.0 or the smallest Glide 2.0 ? .... or maybe the Hyperglide ?
@NA1263111 күн бұрын
find this extremely confusing as well. the duotone website implies that the Glide 2.0 is supposedly faster. But i go to my local spot, and half a dozen duotone users tell me the Carve 2.0 is the faster foil.
@franpinyol850010 күн бұрын
@@NA12631 I've asked Duotone forum and they replied the smallest Carve is the fastest, and I believe it's because it's way smaller than the smaller Glide.
@NA126319 күн бұрын
@ thanks... the next question then, since those little bars on the duotone website aren't particularly helpful is: which takes off earlier - the 900 Glide 2.0 Dlab, or the 1100 Carve 2.0 Dlab?
@obvioustrash78335 күн бұрын
@@NA12631900 glide dlab has the earlier start and is the preferred wing, as early stall means shifty winds and you want to keep gliding. 1100 can still be used and is more nimble in the turns.
@obvioustrash78335 күн бұрын
@@franpinyol8500can confirm, carve dlab 2.0 has higher top speed. Issue I had with pushing the glide, was that it has too much lift at high speeds. I sent it downwind and it was extremely hard to keep it down at 47-48 km/h. Any small piece of chop will send you up in the air. Using the carve dlab I can go 53 km/h quite comfortably without having the feeling im going to launch out of the water

Great series and info. The Mikeslab 340 (65cm span) rocks! especially downwind. On an upwind course the Mikes 540 (74cm span) with gates inspires more confidence riding overpowered and upwind though. I wonder how much the stabilizer and foil section has to do with that vs the span ? Cheers

I'm not sure, I need to ride more foils to have a valid response, I do like my 410 ML but my go top isa the 340, not just does everything better. when its slightly choppy I use the Duotone DLab 500, they are all in the same region ands range , its a feel thing I guess.

Interesting vid, was looking lately for a fast setup. It’s more than only the frontwing. What is the AR of the 490 and 500?
@tamaras.44966 ай бұрын
Hi, very informative. I have the same boards as you have. One 75 l Duotone Sky Stayle 24 and the other Sky Brid 85 l. I also have a Mikes Lab foil 540 and I would like to know if you recommend shimming mast for better performance ML foils or do these two boards have the correct bottom rocker for ML foils. Thanks for the reply.
@SPEEDWINGFOILING6 ай бұрын
Wow ! What a set up. Ok for me I wouldn’t recommend setting the shimming up, I know the guys at Mikeslab and they are on their “A” game. For me it’s better to spend the time putting the mast in the right place , as the trim of the board doesn’t matter so much as you are not riding it flat anyway …….. the faster you go the more the front will lift so why worry about trimming the shape, I never trim the board mast with shims , it’s an added complexity you don’t need and on top of that it’s another thing to play on your mind . I am however more than happy to hear a counter argument as I don’t know as much as I would like to on the subject

Great video. Do you tend to use bigger wings to get up with the smaller foils ? and for racing and dodgy wind starts etc do you still use the smaller foils ?
@SPEEDWINGFOILING6 ай бұрын
@@willslever8112 I use slightly bigger wings when I raced , just to give me the margin of error, the hand held wing never mattered as was always wind strength determined

@@windaddict yup! My biggest foil is the Duotone 500 DLab , with the 400 Mikeslab and 340 Mikeslab , the 340 is the foil in which I ride pretty much 100% of the time in all winds, I went for a longer waterline board the new Duotone skybrid with 5 litres less volume but gets on the 11 knots take off speed in need. @@stanleyg.4063I personally sand my foil, fuse mast and stab. It helps tremendously in my opinion (very noticeable in stability for sure). Wetsand with 800, then 1500 and finally 2000. Dont overdo it and make sure you sand equally on each side. Make sure to swap to a clean piece of wet sandpaper when the older one gets dirty. Note that you will see it on your foils (they become a bit dull). Sanding is at your own risk and if you want to eventually sell it, keep that in mind.
