Thanks for this. I have a non-functioning fireplace (cosmetic) that I've just plastered around the entrance to get it square and was wondering how on earth I was going to do the hearth. The original was way too big and mostly broken so removed it. Perfect solution.

I would try to let it dry as much as you can first before laying it.
