I have an 18yo boy and 17yo girl with completely opposite learning styles. They use the exact opposite sides of their brains- could not be more different. We always joke about how they should do every adventure in life together, because together they make one awesomely whole brain. (However they find that less funny the older they get, as you can imagine.) So your videos make me smile. My three kids have used three different math curriculums all the way through…

I really appreciate your videos! You are probably the most relatable homeschooler I follow. Your content just tends to be so much more realistic. It's especially valuable for high school, because it's so much harder to find useful info for the upper grades! So, thank you! ❤

❤️ your explanation on why you choose different curriculum for your children. I whole-heartedly agree. Each of my four are different and having the opportunity to customize and provide resources that meet and encourage them in their learning is one of the many blessings of homeschooling. It's more labor intensive and financially challenging, but for my family the trade off is worth the time and money.

This is so timely. Im pouring over curriculum for next year and for the 1st time in years feel completely overwhelmed and lost on what to do. Ill have 6 children homeschooling next year. 17, 16, 13, 12, 11, 8. Of the 6, 2 are visual learners, 3 are auditory learners, 1 is a tactile learner and 2 of them have learning disorders.. 1 has dyscalculia..the other dyslexia.. both diagnosed through our local school district. Im at my wits end trying to find the right curriculum for everyone. We have leveled subjects for specific subjects but I keep bible and history together as group studies. This year we tried TGTB science ( and have enjoyed it) but its so mom intensive. 😢 I'm trying to maintain a joyful environment and a love for learning but really just want to wave a white flag and call it quits atm. 😢

It sounds like you have done a wonderful job identifying your kiddos learning styles and trying to find good fits for each of them. I wish I could provide suggestions for good resources/curricula for those with dyslexia and dyscalculia but it is not something I've had to look into in the past. I know there are several other creators out there who have shared what has worked for them. I think what you are doing with family subjects is great! It can be a blessing to have the whole family learning together (not to mention its' far easier to prepare just once for a subject). I don't know which history program you are using but I've shared recently on instagram that Guest Hollow released new levels of their Early American history. Now they have history bundles for 4th-12th grade where all the kids are covering the same subjects but they do different reading/video assignments based on their ages with overlapping projects. If you have some kids who enjoy reading, they could do the book options whereas your visual learners might enjoy the free video links more. And their projects/crafts/recipes are both fun and educational for all the age groups. I would also encourage having your older two help with choosing their curriculum for next year. By that age, they can probably give good insight on what they liked/disliked about what they are currently using. I've been having conversations with my teens about this which has helped me immensely in narrowing down options for next year. And the advance search function on the Cathy Duffy site really helps with filtering out many options. Some seasons of homeschooling are more overwhelming than others for sure. Don't worry if you need to cut back on subjects or the amount you are covering - sometimes we homeschool mom need the break too! Your family is blessed to have a mom so devoted to them and their education.
