oh, its had lots of use... I just cleaned it up so that I would not have grass and dirt falling in my face

Lessons Learned: Lift and block the back of the mower, I used jack stands, also place chalks in front of the front caster wheels. Disconnect the clutch wire harness and feed it under the mower Remove belt from pulley, I pulled it off from the back, but had to release the tension spring to re-install it. Use an air impact wrench (5/8 impact socket) to remove the center bolt from the PTO clutch, be careful not to drop it, note the position of the anti-spin rod. Removing the ant-spin rod from the old clutch to move it to the new clutch was the biggest challenge. The nut head was close to 9/16, but It had to be heated to release it, and had to tap a 6 point 9/16 socket on it before it would fit an it finally released. mechanic recommended applying oil to the threads before reinstalling. Install the new clutch while noting the notch in the crank shaft and where the ant-spin rod needs to be. Finger tighten and bump it a couple of times with the air impact socket, once snug bump it again on a low setting, can't use a torque wrench because you can't keep the crank shaft from moving Then feed and reconnect the wire harness. Reinstall the belt making sure it's on all of the pulleys correctly. The rest should be obvious. Happy cutting, This could save you close to $500 and a 2 week wait.

Glad to see a realistic repair video... I had a very similar job that I did but I was able to catch the edges of the clutch with the hub puller.. came off 20 minutes. What didn't come off easy was that drive pulley.. folded it like a taco with the hub puller and then had to cut it off...

I am definitely not a full time mechanic so there are things I'm sure I do the hard way, but I get them done. I enjoy working on my own equipment when I can.

Was at exactly this stage..bottom half off easily.. Got the harbor freight puller like yours ($19.99) but yes this problem of the domed top persists...... Like him I have seen all the KZbins where you just glare at it and it falls off. I HATE BEING DEFEATED.. It is an insult to me and I feel like those guys who can't change light bulb. You know the type... Anyway the Dealer picks the tractor up on Friday.. My guess $300.... I am SO ASHAMED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps I bet we get the tractor on the truck and it FALLS off !

These tasks can be do aggravating. As you could see I was not going to let it defeat me.... no matter how many trips to the hardware store I had to make. hahaha Thanks for watching

@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 The manufacturers of bearing pullers are missing a trick...if they made one for the huge number of lawn tractor clutches, they would sell a million... I just made a garrot system with parachute cord that will compress the spring and allow removal of the belt on a mowing deck in 20 seconds..Total cost $3.. It will be my first KZbin vid...lol...

Well..... Ya coulda gotten a long 3/4" socket extension and put it thru the hole next to the oil drain and wop on the back side of the clutch to drive it off. Idk I think differently.... I thought of that the first of many clutches I've removed. Gotta be smarter than the average bear.

How many hours did you have on your mower when the clutch went bad?

This mower has 2400+ hours on it. The PTO clutch is fine. I purchased it with a blown engine. I had to remove the PTO clutch to replace the engine.

Maybe so. I don't have a torch, but if you watch the later video where I struggle with the wheel hub I borrow a neighbor's torch and try it.
