Marlon, your videos are excellent. Of all the videos I’ve seen, you do the best job I’ve found in explaining how to deal with imperfections and measuring. I have an exterior steel door with sidelights that I need to trim out. They used some thin molding between the door and sidelights that just butt up against the top casing. I’m afraid to rip out that piece because I don’t know what I’ll find and what I’d do about it. I would love to see you do a video on trimming that kind of door.

Great series! I’m not a carpenter by any means, more of a semi pro homeowner DYI’er. But, you explained things so well that I want to try some of the things I learned. Trim and molding has always been my weakness. I admire guys like you that take the time to do things the right way and know your stuff well enough to explain it to us non-pros. Thanks bro!

I'm in Canada, it's been difficult to get clam clamps here. I did find some adapters on Amazon for cheap that slip on to Irwin or dewalt bar clamps for like $10. They obviously don't work quite as well as the clams, but I've still been extremely happy with them. Hope this helps 😎

What do you do when the jam is proud of the casing? The back of the casing will be too far off the wall for caulking

What size nail gin are you using? 16 or 15? Thanks!

Did you use 18 ga brads? Seems like it wouldn’t have as much holding power on such a thick casing. I also noticed when you were shooting the casing to the jamb I was half expecting blow out due to the orientation of the nail going in. I Do really like the pre-assembly idea, but it seems like it would only benefit when the jambs and drywall aren’t 1/4”-3/8” out of plane. None of this is criticism on my behalf, by the way. I only did my first casing job a couple weeks ago and it was on my own house! Thanks for the video! It will never get old watching and learning from everyone on this platform.

Pre assembly is always the best option. If the jamb and drywall are 3/8 off you need to do what he did at the end of the video and clamp it ( trying to push drywall in) or if its really bad you can add extension to the jamb.
