Great information, currently I am doing my Master thesis about torsional vibration in geared compressor trains. The most dificult part is to obtain torsional measurements in order to validate a conputational model. As you explained, normally it depends on strain gauges, they are not built-in devices in most of compressor trains. It is much easier to obtain data from lateral vibration since bearings are normally provided with X and Y vibration probes.
