Beautiful playing Rick! You make it look so easy. But of course there's a lifetime of work behind that!

Hey, Rick! A quick question about “Nathan’s Number.” In my (older, 2002) edition of the book, the last eighth note of the second bar of the very last line (right before the two-bar rest), has a tie (implying that it’s long). However, the band clearly plays it as a short note. Is this a typo in my edition? Does yours have the same typo? (The measure looks to have been copied from the preceding one and someone forgot to remove the tie.) Then again, the book is full of inconsistencies and oddities in the notation, which I think is intentional. The goal, after all, is to teach students to read music, so getting used to all sorts of oddball notation examples should build up your music reading skills.

There are typos in most charts and books. Just use your ears to lead the way and make the corrections.
