Miriam, I am so inspired by your videos! Thank you for filming your adventures and sharing them with others. I want you to know that I greatly admire the physical, mental, and emotional strength that you display. Personally, I feel stronger as a woman after watching you! I know I am a strong woman too, and I've done some extraordinary outdoor adventures in my life, but that was long ago. I am more content now to be in comfort, kind of like Peter. But I love, love, love to watch you explore the world. Your books and videos have helped me overcome my personal challenges. I think, "if Miriam can do that, I can certainly rise up and re-create a new life for myself," and I have! I wish you many more exhilarating trips as you discover what's over the next peak in this amazing world. I'm happy your friend Nanet is your traveling companion.

That scenery is out of this world.. unreal.. like a painting... it is overwhelmingly beautyful in all its roughness. How do you navigate all this... ? DId you sometimes loose your way in the mountains? Are there clear paths or is it all via digital navigation. So many aspects ... If you would make a video 2 hours long of just one pass I would be hooked too.
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Hi Pilot. We made our route on Gaia app. Then downloaded the off- line maps. Sometimes the trail is clear, other times there is none, and we have to find our own. Generally you can not get lost (easily) in high mountains, you just follow the valley up or down. Thank you for your support ❤

@@miriamlancewoodinthewild OH smart! No dependance on internet... very good! A map would get wet... A phone with photo's has to be charged though.. Apparently that worked! My phone goes dead sometimes when it is too cold. I guess that is an issue with older batteries. Did your phone operate properly in the cold? Thank you for answering. My name is Judith 🙂

Well, that is just magic for me, and, whoever. Just keep away from gullies in electrical storms, did a rescue, decades ago at Aoraki (Mt Cook} of 2 climbers frozen in time, by the shock. I have slept under a Sami sled in Finnmarkorth Norway, covered in skins, also buried in snow, covered in skins. All survivable. Love your journey and your space...........Arohanui...........
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Hi Robin. Thank you for your comment. Why gullies? I would have thought you're relatively safe in a gully? rather than a more open, broader valley?

Really enjoying this series, watching each episode as it comes out! Wish it would never end! But if it has to end, perhaps it can be with a Q&A episode with you both, answering questions from the comments here? I’d also love to learn more about how you planned the trip, the logistics, gear tips, etc etc! Thanks for sharing, greetings from a Dutch girl currently in Panama!

Those mountains, when you were on the top of the pass, looked absolutely surreal. 'Lost Horizon' came to mind - which is fiction:) Your images are not. You are also a wonderful film maker, the music fantastically paced, the images of breath-taking beauty. You're giving us such a gift, with your beautiful offerings of pristine nature - those incredible mountain peaks, deep-blue lakes, snow, hail, sun, clouds, blue sky AND humans and horses. I love it how there is both depth and lightheartedness in your story-telling. Lots of giggles. You seem to be a great team. Thank you! (from New Zealand).

Fanatastic! Was fortunate to do this trekking in the other direction. I remember the descent (your ascent), was super steep and in gravel. Had to be quite brutal with heavy backpack. Maybe snow and freezing helped to make it more solid. Kyrgyzstan is one of very few countries that is not touristy yet spectacularly beautiful. You can go basically everywhere, a rare sense of freedom.

Again, great sceneries and though circumstances. Aren't afraid of avalanches travalling in snowy conditions?
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Yes, you have to be careful with avalanches. We usually go over the pass very early (before midday). So that the sun doesn't melt the snow and create movement in the ice. Awareness and timing is important.

In the middle of nowhere, using an app on a phone. How does that work? Pre downloaded maps? Charging on solar? There will be satalites overhead but no cell towers nearby. 🤔
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Thats right, if you use Gaia or Mapy, you draw your route first, then download the maps for off line use. Then you rely on satellite for your location. That's pretty good. Only downfall is that you are dependent on your phone. So it needs to be charged. I got a good solar panel from Goal Zero and the 20.000 battery that comes with it. It's heavy to carry, (but I need my phone for making this content too). Otherwise, I'd suggest using just paper maps (like in NZ). In Central Asia, incl India, it is however difficult to find paper maps.

Amazing scenery! Ik ben benieuwd hoe jullie de keuze hebben gemaakt voor de track die jullie lopen? En doe je al je orientatie op het pad via die app die je in de vlog noemt? Super mooie serie, Miriam!
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Yes, we looked for dotted lines on our Gaia app, that indicates a walking route. Then we guessed how many days it would be to hike, bought food, and set off. It's not too difficult once you're trained and experienced with the elements. For beginners I'd suggest going to places like New Zealand, Switzerland or Sweden where there are plenty of Back Country huts where you can sleep or shelter in case of bad weather. There are many dangerous aspects, the main one is change of weather in the mountains causing hypothermia. Another one is river crossing (especially in New Zealand). ❤
@miriamlancewoodinthewildАй бұрын
Yes, we navigate using Gaia App. But many apps are suitable and less costly, for example Mapy.
