In this video I attempt to make a rear repair panel from some flat 1mm plate for my Ford Transit Mk6 rust problem.

I can't imagine the thousands of contractor vans that have been scrapped because nobody wanted to replace all the rotted metal.

Really well done with a limited array of tools. I worked in a roadsign factory metal dept and can't believe how you made that complex panel in your shed. The welder is a godsend as it seems to weld that thin steel really well. Might as well weld a thin strip over the wheel arch when you're at it.

Brilliant video, Don't know if you remember was quizzing you about my drum brakes, my friend found the problem was a wheel cylinder, it knocks your confidence sometimes when things happen, great video's take care Ian

looks very good for not having the correct tools. your teaching me what I need to do with my toyota that needs to pass inspection (mot). it has exact same problem. only I bought panels as I don't have metal .

Very clean work there martin, mine needs doing in the same place and various other area's. Eventually that van is going to be good for many years if you continue like that. Keep up the good work bud.

A great job Martin. You made that wheel arch lower out of sheet steel well done mate. Im a panel beater 30 years with all the tools and your doing this on your drive with no lift hats off and loads of respect for you. Love your videos keep them coming

Wish Id seen this first LOL Well my job wasn't bad went through out version of MOT a few days ago so happy days, but Its a lack from the factory and previous owners on Maintenance for doing the bottom work ie Rust prevention and coating, I do it for all my vehicles and yeah its a couple of days of sweat and swearing but then a couple of years or more dont need to worry.

Hows the shoulder Martin? Nice haircut too....Also, Martin...if you want to use a tape measure for measuring radius' and curved panels, nick Sharon's one from her sewing box, it will conform the the panel you want to replicate and give you a more accurate measurement 'ta boot'...Love these videos!!

Nice work - you're going the right way about it considering it's an old working van and not a full restoration. As the old saying goes 'always vary the cut of your cloth'. Big fan of Vactan. Works brilliantly.

Hi Martin, sometimes easier to try and recreate your templates before you cut everything out but I know it's easy to get carried away with the grinder 😀

What I did was buy the wheel arch for £30 and just cut off the bit you needed you would think they would sell just that part.

I recommend Fitzees Fabrications for how to do these types of repairs where you don't have repair panels.

I did it on the other side and it was a lot of hassle and the arch was ok on this side.

And that glue catches fire nicely too. I know for a fact. Adhesive and foam inserts whilst they spot welded the buggers together.

One thing that has always confused me is when to and not to use something like Hammerite Krust? I was told years ago that my wheel arches the rust came back as I didn't use it? can you weld over Kurust? it is all very confusing

Just a quick note, what with everyone harping on about health and safety, it maybe good to use your channel to mention that all abrasive cutting disk's have a use by date, and to be sure to run one up for 30 seconds at arms reach away from the face before using it. Love the video.

The whole of the wheel arch wasn't worth replacing anyway as the whole of it hasn't gone and you did say it's not a restoration job.Im thinking of taking up welding where i volunteer. What type of welder do you use?

Nice job forming the arch section, well done! i usually grab an old 45 gallon drum when i need to "Knit my own wheelarch" lol all the little ribs and the fact its already curved make life easier. I took my cue from watching guys in Cuba.

Hi Martin, great video as always and again great work, there will always be someone going to say do this do that but I say it’s your van you do it how you want and to me I’ve got no problems with your work. All you need now is a sticker to say don’t come knocking when vans rocking 😇👍as regards to the triumph my step father worked on them when they were made at Oxford, good little car about time you finished it, oh and I’d like to ask more about how you do your stickers like for your restroom, or maybe a video on it thanks mark just down the coast

I'm glad I'm not the only one who measures in metric and imperial to which ever is nearest. Does create a bit of confusion if you're working with somebody else though. Love the vids , down to earth with no massive workshop and £1000s of tools.

Great job mate on making that panel 👍🏻 Have you Tried using weld through primer to cover the back of your repair panels before welding them in also use it spray over what you weld too? On the big panel you could of drilled a couple of holes on the front lip of the arch to spot weld to the inner part of the arch where it’s normally glued from original if that makes sense 👍🏻
