Hi, very helpful tutorials thank you so much. Just wanna ask a question that why you are adding firewall rules for ports 1433, 4033 in windows defender firewall which is actually a local firewall settings while the sccm server will be a part of the domain. Why you are not adding these rules via group policy? as we know that domain environment doesn't care about local settings. I am not saying that you are doing something wrong. Ofcourse you would have some reason behind it and I am curious to know about it.

Hi Jay, I've been following everything so far from the beginning but now when I try to sign into SQL Server Management Studio with any account other than the local Administrator account, it gets an error message. Where do I go to check and make sure CMSQL or CMAdmin can sign into the database? Again, local Admin to CM01 is the only one that can sign into SQLSMS. Thanks!

It ensures SPN is registered successfully. In some cases, auto SPN registration fails and you might have to perform that step anyway.

Hi, in your opinion, is it better to set up wsus for updates or to just pull the updates directly from online instead? We are only planning to use MECM for reimagine machines. In the past we’ve had problems with WSUS with MDT.

The beauty is you can use WSUS to manage updates and control the clients to get the updates from Microsoft directly. For instance, you configure all the products and classifications in Software Update Point. You will see WSUS metadata and the configure ADRs for the Windows Updates. Deploy the ADRs and allow the clients to go to Microsoft to download updates. You are sending endpoints to download updates from Microsoft but in a controlled manner.

After moving the WSUS database files to the WSUS folder and attaching WSUS database is read only.

I saw this behavior once. Move db files to a different location > Delete custom location folder/files and try re-doing that step.

Ajay until Part 6, you had server named SC-01. Is that the same server CM-01 in PART 7? We have had installed SQL 2016 on it. But in PART 7 everything seems to be different like all pre-requisites and SQL Server 2017.

In the lab even if you don't define SPN, it might not be a problem. However, in production definitely you would like to configure SPN for better security and performance. Main reason to define SPN is Kerberos authentication. This Microsoft document explains it in detail bit.ly/3i5wrsT.

It has some issues and needs to be resolved by running some scripts provided by Microsoft. I double-checked now and seems like that particular issue is resolved through their latest CU5. That is why I used something robust and know it works.

Hi Denis Panchenko Try the following : 1. Copy the files back to the default location (you have to de-attach the susdb) 2. Re-attach the susdb mdf file from default location 3. Delete the susdb files from the new location 4. De-attach again susdb 5. Copy susdb files from default location to new location 6. Attach again susdb - it shouldn’t be read only anymore Let me know how did this go.

Hi TekNex, while running the setspn command the second time, Powershell aborted the operation as it stated "Duplicate SPN found" . The first setspn command ran successfully so spn was registered. Should I be concerned?

Rosy's Kitchen When you run setspn -L command (listed in description command number 5) with the your SQL service account does it show account registered twice? And it shouldn’t be a problem. I have seen people using service accounts without registering spn.

During cumulative update installation at the end of the process it tries to start SQL services, but after some time it fails with error "The NT service 'SQLSERVERAGENT' could not be started. Error code 0x84B20001." After that I can't even start services manually. It gives me error 3417. I tried to change to local account in services but it didn't help. In events log there is record "The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with the following service-specific error: WARNING: You have until SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) to logoff. If you have not logged off at this time, your session will be disconnected, and any open files or devices you have open may lose data." Do you have any thoughts?

I have not experienced this before. I am assuming you have tried something simple like a restart. You could try repairing the SQL Server installation with the help of SQL Server installation media. There is a maintenance mode and it will give you an option to repair the installation. @@TekNexSolutions After some digging I've have found the solution. Go to Control Panel - Region - Administrative tab - change system locale - untick checkbox: Beta: Use unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support. Hope it'll help someone.

I have experienced similar myself in the past. However, for me it was resolved after a couple of restarts. Also, I suspect it was some of the updates caused the problem because they were failing to install.
