Not every XYL would help put that cable through, hats off to her! Looking forward to finally seeing what goes on top, 73

My YL helped, but she's also a ham. Hint: Find a higher pivot point on the tower. Then you can use your weight to it up and through as you pull down. You did a good job!

For future pulls like this, get yourself a Wire Pulling Basket.... Available at electrical supply stores, it works like a “Chinese Handcuff”. Slip the cables into the basket, pull the basket tight, add some tape to the basket and PULL! This will greatly reduce the chance of the cables slipping out from the tape, and becoming lost in the conduit.... They come in different sizes, and are not that expensive.

Cable pulls are not only helped by lube, but greatly helped by using long sweep els on all turns. The more turns you have the more important long sweep els become. I hope that is what you used, the less turns, bends you have, the easier the pulling! DA1DA, Jim was my supervisor in Germany. If you would, please send him a message from me. My name is Mark and I have been to his house. He will remember if he still is living. A great guy is/was Jim. Good DXer if ever was one! Thanks! I don’t have a radio!

Way to go Randy! Well prepared - easy to do. Hurrey for helping hand wife. How about ground combine cable, went that outside of that conduit, and connect the mast and junction box together to same point of ground?

Nice antenna and beam mate, but I think you should have left more 'breathing' space between the beam and the top of the tower; that is, you should have mounted the beam at least 0.5m above the top of the tower. I just noticed a picture of the beam in the JK antenna brochure. It shows the beam mounted at least 1 metre or more above the top of the tower in a position where you originally said to your helper, it goes here and he over-rode ypu and slid it all the way down to practically touching the top of the tower - I believe that it is in the wrong position where you have mounted it, and you should mount it further up the pipe away from the top of the tower.

Could you do a video on all the connections made in the big junction boxes at the house and tower, including a link to finding those boxes? Thanks, Randy

I got the box at Home Depot. Buy on twice the size that you think you need.

I just realized this last video was from just a few days ago...........This is like discovering your favorite TV shows stops programing in the middle of the season. Sir, you must put everything else on the backburner and make more videos of the new hamshack. lol>>>>>Just kidding. Really looking forward to the next videos.

Yes. Lots going on. Beam is built waiting for better weather. Then lots of cabling to do. And build new shelves for the gear. On and on....

Hi Randy, WoW 6 cables pulled through 3" conduit? I never would have thought it be that easy. I always use 4" conduit for pulls that populated. But, you did your homework and it worked very smoothly. Nice job. Brian w6dwy. BTW: did you pull a CAT6 run as well?

Next time is clamping the cables again with PL259, lower the tower, assemble the antennas, and voila )

Rick AG5UW - Hey Randy. I have to ask what your reasoning for not buying something like an Ameritron Remote Coax switch in place of pulling so many coaxes ? I'm rebuilding my tower and was thinking about installing the remote coax switch for my beam and dipole antennas. You are one lucky fella with a tower like that one.
@K7AGE4 жыл бұрын
Many of the new radios have dual receivers that can use dual antenna inputs. So, more runs of coax back to the shack. I used an Ameritron switch for 20+ years at my station in Grass Valley.

Add another pull string to that bundle before pulling? Yeah it can be a nightmare adding to it all but it's worth a try. Having a pull line in there gives you a chance at adding to the setup. What happens now if you need to add a cable, assuming there's room?
@K7AGE4 жыл бұрын
there is a large pull rope left in the conduit.

First story of a cable pulling I've heard in awhile that didn't involve a fistfight. Also, how did you start the string? Shopvac trick?
@bw42653 жыл бұрын
What's the length of the run? Fishtape an option?
@K7AGE3 жыл бұрын
Nope, it was about 107' long. Shopvac was used to suck through a foam wad with string attached. Wife really helped with this part of the project.

Good work, but, i always pull another pull cord with the cables so you can add another cable later i use electricians pull cord, very strong and cheep comes in a bucket.

A 110 ft. pull is an easy one even without lube. Did you calculate the fill before selecting the conduit? Should be less than 40 percent area.
