The best railway video I have seen yet on KZbin!!! My condolences on the passing of your father and uncle. My Uncle passed on 2 years ago in Revelstoke. He was the yard section foreman in the stoke until 1985, he probably knew your uncle and father Best Wishes keep up the good work!!!

Nice video. My dad was an engineer with the L&N for 40 years, he passsed away in 1999. Your dad and uncle remind me a lot of him and the men he worked with. I guess no matter where railroaders of his generation worked they had a lot in common. Thanks for the videos.

I was 12 yrs old when i first seen the The Canadian (1968) Always wondered what it was like working in/on "The Canadian" in the Rockie Mountains ! Fantastic Video ! PS: Sorry about your Dad and Uncle I know the feeling!

Over forty years ago a dad took his kid to the train yard to see the big diesels. His dad preferred the steam but that little kid liked the big SD's. It was once said that if you worked on the railway you were a somebody. From that grizzled veteran at the thottle to the young hotshot trainman, both guys were somebody to that kid forty years ago. The kid never got his chance but those old railroaders made his and generations of kids days. Those old railroaders were somebody and still are!

You can see the Ventilation building on a hike that i can't remember, but somewhere in rogers where the hotels are, you can see a road heading to the left, but it is blocked off, that's where the building is. (i bet you already knew that)

I Wish VIA Still Operated On CP! Then We Could All Go Through Mount MacDonald And Mount Shaughnessy! I Also Wonder What It Would Be Like To derail Or Stall In That Tunnel, It Is Also Lit Up So It Wouldn't Be Scary But It Would Be Cold! Sorry to Hear About Their Passing.

they were doing 60 mph uphill in the tunnel????? nice catch on the meet with the coal train, SD40-2 and i think an M630 mid train and 2 SD40-2s and a SD40-2F at the head. they must have been going pretty fast because it took quite a while to overtake them

No M630 there. Just another SD40-2. By this time - late '89 - you never saw a MLW west of Winnipeg and certainly not on a coal train. CP had learned it's lesson about MLW's and mountain divisions in the '70's - the two didn't go well together. From the mid '70's onward the mountain divisions - between Calgary and Vancouver - were owned by the 5800's, like the 5871 that you see @4:40 - so called mountain locomotives - that were equipped for robot use. Later on other SD40-2's were equipped for robot use. The MLW's were usually turned around at Winnipeg and sent back to Montreal where they were maintained out of.
