My friend Bear scored a laminated pass for the entire tour while he was shut out of Mardi Gras in Oakland. Some old Chinese dude hands him a pass that says "J. Garcia Guest #1, Spring 1993". He wasn't even gonna go back east for the shows cause he had stopped swinging and was broke. But knowing that he was gonna get into ever show he could make it to changed things. So we get to Rosemont, cold as balls, we're all from CA and have like no jackets, let alone socks, we're freezing our asses off, snow is coming down. Bear tries the pass and it works- he goes in during soundcheck, comes back out to the bus with an Aramark concession uniform, says "this is how you are all getting in." Goddamn if we each didnt take turns putting on that uniform and walking in like we worked there. would meet Bear up in the stands, we'd strip off the uni and he would run it out to the bus for the next person to put on and go in. I can't make this kinda shit up. Goddamn I miss tour.

I started selling tie-dyes in 1990. Went to my first Dead show that year and made 500 bucks. Then joined the tour for a few days in 1993. Went to Indy shows, Louisville and Cleveland (fall shows thank God) and yes, I got my stuff taken. Cops saw some shirts in the back of my car seat and took them!!! Went to a judge on Monday morning, told him I was not vending and they confiscated the shirts w/o a warrant or charge, and he ordered the police to give me my 50 shirts back. When I went to the police evidence lock up, there were dozens of Steal-Your-Face, and Dancing Bears shirts there. I was making some good money back then.

I was there !!! Show was canceled but I bought something in the parking lot that made the night interesting. Lost my tent in the snow and found a hotel room a couple hours away for the nights trip. Most snow this boy had seen up to that point in my life. The drift in front of our hotel room was deeper than the hood of my explorer. Memories 😁

Oh wow... My very first show. Not that anyone gives a shit, but I remember staying in Pittsburgh the night before, with my Ultra Smart friend's. I was so very self conscious back then...unfortunately. I wish I had the wisdom I have now. I would've danced as if it was my last day on earth. I would've done back flips in the snow. All I was concerned about then, was whether or not they'd play Brown Eyed Women, which, of course they did. It wasn't one of their best show, but it was my first and favorite, now that I think on it for a second.

I guess that blizzard got everybody on the east coast. We got 17 inches that day in Alabama of all places. I was only 13 at the time so I never got to see the Dead and seeing these vids is awesome. I wish Panic and Phish lots were this great.

hard tour be honest. Rosemont just blows except there was a "Sketches of Spain" jam in Space which blew my mind. Albany was ferociously awesome. Here Comes Sunshine. Did mescaline and we turned into the smurfs...shit happens.

My first show was Spectrum 9/13/93 with the epic Scarlet Fire and Dark Star
@matthewmaurysmith24862 жыл бұрын
@@JRastafari007 I was not at that show but I spent a bunch of time burning just about every 93 soundboard to CDR years ago when the archive let you do that sort of thing. Man, I used to listen to that second set from that Spectrum show u mentioned over and over again. I love the Scarlet fire, the Dark Star, the jamming. I think I even like the easy answers I think they did that after space? Yep, that's an excellent show. Man it's hard to find a single bad show in 1993 although I will say in August somewhere around his birthday he must have started hitting the shit pretty hard again because you start hearing the wheels come off just a little bit towards the end of 93. Downtown is a funny drug. For a little while it actually makes you better and makes you maybe play a little bit better and then after the tolerance digs in and use gets heavy, it turns on you then things just get shitty and sloppy. but overall 1993 has to be one of the best years of Grateful Dead music hands-down ever no argument.

I feel the dead didn’t personally mind vendors I feel it was just making it hard for them to find places to play we’re vending isn’t a problem. Yes it brings ppl to the shows that don’t got tickets but that doesn’t mean they don’t want get a ticket or are not trying to get tickets. Plus lot is a place for the local heads of each area to come together an trade. Some ppl get to go on tour but a lot can’t do lot brings a great element. We still deal with the same situations today Wich is funny that one would think all these years later we have this figured out lol
