chiming in to say I just got back from nearly a month long trip in Japan and China using the Aeronaut 45 and daily backpack technique...my first trip with the Aeronaut 45 and it did its job perfectly, I hate wheeled bags and I hate checking in bags and packing the Aeronaut it to its brim full of gifts on the way back, it still fit in all the overhead compartments with my backpack under the seat in front of me. I took more clothes than these fellas did as well...but probably less electronics and little things. Either way, I can definitely vouch for this method.

Liked the first variant of packing - daily bag inside carry-on backpack - fits all airlines restrictions and when you get to the place you just take out this small daybag/daily backpack. Profit

Hi, just saw this and I'm headed on a two wk trip to Japan in May and want to take one bag. What did you do about shoes?

Wish we could answer, but this video is from long ago and I'm not sure even Chris or Daniel would remember the answer. Hope you have a great trip to Japan!

Loved both videos. What camera was used for this? I did 2 weeks in Japan back in 2009 using 2 Aeronauts and an Imago for 2 adults and 2 little ones (ages 1 and 2). Worked perfectly :) Looking forward to going back there again :D

Are they using the Aeronaut 30 or Aeronaut 45?
@millefolia7 жыл бұрын
Amir, they used the bag that's now called the Aeronaut 45. Back when they made the video the Aeronaut 30 didn't exist yet, so the Aeronaut 45 was just called the Aeronaut.

Hi, do you think you could've packed the Synapse into the Aeronaut? Either empty and flat, or used as a packing cube?
@tombihn7 жыл бұрын
You definitely wouldn't want to roll or fold the Synapse; that'd crease its back foam. For a backpack that could be rolled or folded in the Aeronaut, consider the Aeronaut 45 Packing Cube Backpack or the Daylight Backpack. Hope this helps a bit... if you have more questions, feel free to emailus@tombihn.com :)

Great video! I've just got back from a trip with a bag I *hated*, so I'm at the end of making a fully comprehensive list of a wide variety of bag types. However, it turns out from this trip that a bag combination I really like is the same as Daniel - a duffel for clothes, and a small rucksack for stuff I need day-to-day. I pack as light as Chris though, and a requirement is that the day pack should quickly be able to pack into the duffel. The Aeronaut is certainly on my shortlist.

Thank you for responding! I like Daniel's combination of the synapse and aeronaut 45, it just makes more sense to me for a two week trip anywhere overseas. Is there a way to find out what Daniel's aeronaut 45 weighed after packing?
@tombihn9 жыл бұрын
EDZYFY Ahh, that'd be cool, but I don't think he weighed it back when this was filmed. But check this out: www.tombihn.com/blog/packing-style-interview-chris-vs-daniel

Where's the space for all the gifts and stuff you buy in japan? Extra suitcase costs up to $75 on most airlines. Looks like its just enough for your clothes but not a true tourist suitcase.
@shgfe3ay9 жыл бұрын
prst99 they used it all as carry on it seems. so they can buy a suitcase there and come back with one. It also depends what cabin you fly in. Travelling in business or 1st class means you can take 3 x 23kg suitcases back. plenty of room for clothes and sake :)
@prst999 жыл бұрын
First class huh? Seems these guys are richer than I thought. Us normal folks can't afford a $6,000 ticket.

If you stay some place with a washing machine you really do not need any more than one or two pairs of pants. I went to Scotland a few years ago and I brought half a dozen pairs of pants with me and ended up wearing maybe two pairs consistently. It is a lesson learned, not that my bag was terribly full, but I had more crap than I needed, but I'm learning how to capsule pack and since I can also wear leggings I don't really need to pack pants most of the time. I'll never be as efficient as the first guy, but I do admire his ability to pack everything into one carry on bag.

kikigrl77 If you are staying at a hostel or at friends it's not that difficult to spend a little bit of your time to wash your clothes. When you are travelling light it's simply impossible to pack clothes for every single day. It's not practical. Trust me, I have done it and it was when I first got my Aeronaut 45. I got 5 tops, 2 trousers, 1 skirt, and 7 pieces of underwear for a 7-day trip. I did use all the underwear but because I was staying at a friend's house I realised that I could have done with less clothes because I could have washed them. Since then I have got more practical in my trips.
