Hi, thank you for posting this, i am doing the same process, i have to ask - How did you manage to remove the tiny 'C clip' on the "idler wheel"? i ended up cleaning around it, but i have not got the replacement rubber yet i hope i can fit it in, also i tried removing the C clip but it is a tuff cookie, i didn't want to broke anything .

It came off with a very small flat head screwdriver but it was tricky, a magnet is handy too. Have plenty of light on it when you attempt it. Also make sure the replacement rubber is not too wide otherwise it may breach the metal surround and cause the cassette to play at a slower speed.

I’ve just got one of these and I’m trying to fix it up. The volume is very crackly and loud. Only one channel works and even when fully turned down, it’s at a medium volume. Soon as I turn it up a little the other channel activates. I’m also having issues getting stereo on FM. Very rarely I can get it to activate, despite a strong signal. I’ve tried contact cleaner to no avail. Can you suggest what else I could try? Have you experienced any of these issue?

Is one channel kaput or is it coming on at different volume levels? I had a Grundig radio cassette once and I blew one of the stereo channels as it was under warranty I got it fixed so it can happen that a channel will break. Have you also checked your capacitors as this maybe causing a weak FM signal.

@@AvidRetro Probably is a cap issue. FM reception wasn't stellar. Cant tell now as I gave up and sold it. Hopefully it's new oener can figure it out.
