Cations are smaller in size because the number of protons exceeds the number of electrons, thus positive charge in atom increases which attracts negatively charged electrons towards nucleus.Thus, size of cations is smaller..The opposite of this happens with Anions and thus their size is bigger

Because of the foce of attraction between protons and neutrons the size of ion changes. Al3+ is smaller in size as it contains 3 extra protons or 3 less electrons ,thus the protons exert more force on electrons. While in O2- two electrons are more thus it becomes biggger as protons exert less force on electrons .

Sir aluminium is smaller because the positive charges in nucleus result in the increase of nuclear charge.....therefore they pull electrons to a greater extent
@yashnanwatkar4142 жыл бұрын
1)The Oxygen atom is bigger than the aluminum atom because of there atomic size . 2)Atomic size is determined by using atomic radius . Atomic radius is the distance between the nucleus and valence electron. 3)As Oxygen contains only 2 shells so the force of attraction between the last electron and the nucleus is less , On the other hand Aluminum contains 3 shells so the force of attraction between the last electron and nucleus is more . 4)Therefore, Oxygen atom is bigger than the Aluminum atom. Thank you 😊💓Parth bhaiya you are just like kota factory ke Jitu bhaiya for me who clear my all doubts clearly...

40:26 Al³+ is smaller because the protons in this atom is more than the electron. As tye protons are more, it will attract more electrons more powerful resulting in the reduction of the size of the atom... the opposite of Al³+ happens in O²- as it has more electrons yess sir aap hi se learn Kia hai thankyou sirr

The reason behind differences in sizes of anoins and cations is pretty simple. The cations lose valence electrons and so it's outermost shell gets vanished, and thus it's size reduces. Whereas the size of anions remains the same :)

The atomic size decreases as we pull out the electrons from the element due to attraction from the protons of the nucleus. That is the reasons aluminium is small because there are very less electrons in it. O2 is bigger because there is 2 electrons extra in it and the electrons in O2 move away from each other causing the o2 to increase its size.

41:47 we know that aluminium has high atomic no as compared to Oxygen So the force of attraction of (between proton and electron ) of Oxygen will be comparatively lower as that of Aluminum Therefore due to increase in attraction electrons are pulled towards the nucleus and thus size of the atom (Al)decreases..... Sir plz check it....... and let me know that I am correct or not If possible give a heart ❤ from your side

@balasudalaimuthu11382 жыл бұрын
41:40 Sir it is because the cation(Al³+) is positively charge, and as a result it experiences a greater pull from the nucleus making the atomic radius small. On the other hand the anion(O²-) is negatively charge, and as a result it experiences comparatively lesser pull from the nucleus making the atomic radius big. Therefore Aluminium appears to be smaller and oxygen appears to be larger. Thank u sir
