When you have a repeated factor like (x-1)^2, you have to use (x-1) as well as (x-1)^2. This is also why you have an extra constant (in this case C) in the setup.

Think about how you would add fractions together, eg 2/5+3/8+7/9....you would want to make the denominators the same, so you would multiply each fraction by something to do this
