Finally someone is showing the truth. Unlike India, Bengal was partitioned and divided THRICE, once in 1905, once in 1947 and the last time in 1971. It created a total of three refugee waves which still determines the socioeconomic and political realities of the region. Very few channels would dig deep and show how the ruling Governments at the centre used to turn a blind eye to the millions of Bengali refugees flooding into the country. All talks about 'providing safety' were on paper. These people were highly educated and experienced in their respective fields. In fact, the rise of socialism and communism in Bengal is intricately linked with the plight of these refugees. After taking in millions during the 1947 Partition, things came to a head during the Partition of East Bengal/Pakistan and the West. The streets of Calcutta were filled with millions of educated yet poverty stricken young men and women who lost everything overnight. If you see most of the CPM party veterans, they come from a distinct social sub-division within Bengal, they are called as Bangals (ertwhile residents or children of the residents of East Bengal). It is sad that the majority of the country doesn't see this and know this history. Jyoti Basu, Amartya Sen, Abhijeet Bannerjee and countless others were Bangals. The NRC bill being vehemently opposed in Bengal has roots to this sad history of the region. While the BJP and the ruling TMC have made it a political issue, it a a deeply societal issue. One of the basic tenets of the bill promises citizenship to people who came on particular dates during 1947 and 1971 to India, while disenfranchising the millions who came over the next couple of years. The cultural hegemony of India is a myth. States like Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab have a distinct social history from the Hindi heartland and culture which sort of have a huge influence over national media. This history should be taught to Indians so that they realise that this had happened. The flight of capital and rise of socialism was accentuated by the fact that many highly educated Bengalis from East Pakistan who were promised a better future could not get jobs and opportunities in the new country they had come in because everything was privatised and large corporate establishments needed proofs of citizenships for hiring (which neither the Indian Government had provided, nor did these people have).
@souvikdeb25234 жыл бұрын
@Abhinava Goswami Thanks mate. Frankly, this is the tip of the iceberg. I have this brewing thing inside of me that I have to dig into this aspect deeper. I feel that someone should look into this and document it. I read and write certain things but I fail to get the proper platform to make my gleanings more popular. If the truth is not told, then an important part of the sociopolitical history of Bengal and India would be erased forever.

@@AbhishekKumar-fl8bw The first division of Bengal was also the first division of India based on religious lines. Bengal was divided by the British because of 'administrative purposes' (as told by them). In reality, they thought that sowing the seeds of communal discord would weaken Bengali and anti-British nationalism which was at its peak. They had to reunite Bengal in 1907 simply because they people of Bengal wanted that. However, they knew the State was boiling and to mollify the flames of nationalism, they decided to carve out separate provinces based on linguistic lines. Note here that Bengalis, Odias and Biharis (especially from the Central and Eastern parts) share similar ethnic and social cultures. There is a difference between the languages (although they are still similar). Even the capital was changed from Calcutta to Delhi so that this 'divide-and-rule' could take place. This is the key here. Whatever the British had done, they wanted to further their agenda by capatalising on faultlines- religion, caste, ethnicity etc. The same is done by the BJP now, one way or the other. That is why none of us want them. Many people are vehemently opposed to TMC but BJP is a different kind of venom. They will play the same communal card which led us to this situation. And frankly, they don't even have a decent State President who can be a source of motivation.

Bengal was always a freedom oriented country since the beginning of time and even in Sultanate period, Mughal period, Bengal province often declared freedom from them and ruled as an independent state (bulgag-pur). Bengal was a bird not to be caged but it was british divide and rule theory that created hatred among Muslim and hindus thus resulted in partition of bengal in half.

This is Sarat chandra bose not Shuvas chandra bose. And the direct action day was declared by Jinnah. The riots that happened was as a result of muslim hindu hatred and final nail in the coffin. Suhrawardy cant be only accountable for the riots in fact he tried to lessen it by declaring public holiday unfortunately that backfired. As far as I have read, Suhrawardy was a great leader may be not in the level of Sarat bose. But In india he was mostly hated because of muslim league, the same way here people hated congress. In 1905 the partition was proposed cause the first deterrence against the British-Raj came from the Mighty Bengal. They couldn’t leave the Bengal independent, it was too powerful. Heck they did the same thing to the whole sub-continent. India and Pakistan , the biggest rival in the world, fighting a war based on religious terms. India is the highest importer of Arms and Pakistan has to make shady business with the West and China to keep their economy afloat. If the British left the subcontinent without injecting the differences among us, we would have become more prosperous than the whole Europe.

The thing is bengal province was always freedom oriented, if you go down to history, in the ancient time, during the time of delhi sultanate or mughal period, Bengal province always would declared freedom, fight for it and rule independently. That is why bengal was called bulgagpur. Bengal was a bird not to be caged since the beginning of time as it was so vastly rich in culture and economic status than other states.. this state used to generate nearly 10% of the global gdp. The United bengal (proposed name: Sonar Bangla) as an independent country was inevitable, but religion conflict ripped us apart. And no one other than british to blame for creating the riots and hatred by playing the cruel game of divide and rule policy. In the end of the day whatever happened, happened for better cause. It is true that people in the then East Bengal supported the partition, Bangabandhu himself was one of them (Check "Aushimapto Attojiboni"). But as years went by, they realized it was a mistake. Correction from a Bengali 1) Muslims never fully protested against 1905 partition because this partition made the districts of Muslim majority and where they could rule. Even today Muslims wholeheartedly don't mourn voice against partition of Bengal or celebrate Rakhi Utshob. 2) Indipendent Bengal would have a Muslim majority. Suhrawardy knew that and he could become the leader of whole Bengal. Well they had lived peacefully together for atleast a thousand years before the first Partition of 1905. Did you not see the video properly? The rise of Bengali Nationalism was led by both Hindus and Muslims to RE-AMALGAMATE the province. One of the major fallouts was that the British were forced to transfer their capital from Calcutta to Delhi, because the city had became very antagonistic towards them. Bengal was the richest province of Independent India. Three waves of Partition and refugee crisis ruined us. It's stupid to blame Hindus and Muslims for it. Leaders like Patel, Nehru and Mukherjee are to be blamed for dismantling an industrialised region into chaos.

The answer to your question is in data, not emotion. And the data says that in 1947, the minority population of East Pakistan was 22%. Now it is 9%. The fate of Hindus in United Bengal would have been the same. It may well happen even now, given that first the Left Front and now TMC is actively encouraging infiltration from Bangladesh.

This partition broke the back of bengal's economy. Majority of lands, properties were separated from mainland India though the owners of those lands, even after losing everything, chose to stay back in West Bengal, India. From then, Bengal's economy started to deteriorate. Even today, land is a huge problem in Bengal when finding space for a heavy industry. The pain that we've buried inside our heart, has always been unsung. We had to pay a heavy price to bring freedom to the nation.

And since you’re a Bangladeshi you should know pretty well that, poverty begets extremism. Just as the Pala days were glorious, the days of the Bengal sultanate were glorious as well. Barring the royal family, government jobs were chosen on merit not religion. And Bengal was its economical height also. These “desert cultists” were the ones who revived Bengali independence in medieval times.

Shamya Prasad Mukherjee saved us. Otherwise, we Hindu Bengalis will be refugees in Bihar today. Muslim Bengalis wanted the whole of Bengal, but they were in 1946-47 was 54 percent of the population. They did not care about the other 46 percent of the population, who were not Muslims. This is the problem with Abdul Razzak, Sali Mullah Khan and other intellectuals of Bangladesh. Mujib changed the name of Ramna Racecourse to Suhrawardy Garden, Suhrawardy presided over the mass killings of about 50,000 Hindus in Calcutta. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had joined the Ministry of Fazul Haq until 1943, he resigned against the communal policy of Suhrawardy regarding famine. Thus, he was, until the great riot of August 1946, not a proponent of a dis-united Bengal. After the horror of both Calcutta riot and Noakhali riot, almost all Hindus except some stupid idiots like Sarat Bose, Kiran Shaker Roy, had realized that it would be impossible to live with the Muslims. Bangladeshis do not analyze the impact of these riots on the psychology of the Hindus.

United Bengal should have been an independent country, Bengali people were divided into two into two aliens federation, be it New Delhi or Karachi/Islamabad (though not now). Had that happened, Bengali people would have been far beyond the rest of the Subcontinent in all socio-economic development indicators, but most importantly they would have got an independent cultural pride and national identity.

I hate it that the Current Indian Administration doesn't revive the Bengal Regiment in the Military, thus West Bengal lacks a Regional Identity based Army in the Indian Armed forces and this keeps a lack of Bengali People interested in the Armed Forces due to lack of Representation. Punjab and Bengal partition brings the division of subcontinent in form of bloodshed. Then Pakistan and India got Independence. If Punjab and Bengal were not divided. Then partition was impossible. In 1947 era, bloodshed, independence and partition were running parallel with each other. Now it solely depends on Nehru and Jinnah to choice independence or partition from British basket. Jinnah surrender from Pakistan and accepted the four zones scheme. It was Nehru who told clearly too international press, we will not give permission to any zone to separate from Delhi in 1958. This statement creates a nuclear explosion in the politics of subcontinent, then Jinnah told British govt now Nehru is unreliable. So divide the subcontinent as soon as possible, otherwise things are going from hands. Then British Govt of India started the division of Subcontinent on the basis of religion. It was a new and horrible formula in the history of Mankind which distributes the population, land and assets on the basis of religion/communal lines. Definitely, its results come in the form of great massacre and Bloodshed. In March 1947, particularly in Punjab and BENGAL provinces Great blood shed reports were coming. But no one took serious action to stop the bloodshed between Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus. 1947 was a year which brings the proposal of Partition. Then Punjab and Bengal partition took place. Pakistan and India got Independence, after few months division of Kashmir and Tibet started took place. Because Punjab and Bengal were the first foot step and foundation step to acquire and conquer Kashmir and Tibet. Punjab border touches with Kashmir. Whereas Bengal border touches with Tibet. Both Provinces were acting as gateway to Kashmir and Tibet. Punjab and Bengal division was legally authorizes by Lord Mountbatten but the division of Kashmir and Tibet is still disputed between Pakistan, China and India. Even more many months ago Afghanistan has also claim its right at Jammu and Kashmir excluding Ladakh. But we Muslims never think what happened with us. How we were used by stalwarts and pseudo leadership. If we saw the map of Tibet, today china is claiming Assam as Southern Tibet. Before 1947, Assam was part of Bengal. Even more the Bengal Province covers entire North Eastern Subcontinent from Tibet to Burma Border. Whereas Punjab also covered the vast regions up to Durand Line. It should be noted Punjab and Bengal are two extreme corners of subcontinent having so large area and population which covers entire North East and North West portion of subcontinent just like curve or hyperbola shape. Before 1947, Delhi was part of Punjab. Whereas Calcutta was the capital of Bengal. BOTH cities were extraordinary important in terms of everything. In these cities Muslims population and land was the most important issue which ALWAYS confuses British and Hindus. Because Muslim constitute at least 33 PERCENT Population and land. It was a great conspiracy with Muslims to divide Punjab and Bengal on communal basis. But we never think in both provinces Muslims were more than 50 percent. So there is no right and need to divide these provinces at communal lines. But global hawk’s wants blood shed of Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs etc. So they start making the mind set of common man and leaders to divide these two provinces at communal Basis. Division creates great massacre of Muslims, Hindu and Sikhs. In West Punjab 8 lacs Hindus and Sikhs were killed whereas 16 lacs Muslims were killed in East Punjab. These killings were organized with engineered tactics. Not a single murderer of 24 lacs Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs was caught. Finally, We Muslims got very heavy collateral loss in terms of everything. Till today, it is not covered.
