Thanks so much for making this video, you just saved me a bunch of money. I had to adapt this to my fridge but felt pretty good with your directions and instructions. I was able to rip out the water line, run some hot water over it, cleared out the frozen portion and then snaked it right back in. I had tried the syringe last night but that did not work and shot a bunch of water everywhere. I also dislodged the water line from its holder. One tip I will pass on to other viewers is to push the water dispenser once you disconnect the water line at the bottom. This will tell you if the frozen water is on the refrigerator side or the freezer side. Water came out from me, so I knew where the clog was. Our water line froze up after I recently adjusted the fridge and freezer temps down a little and went out of town over the weekend.

Thank you for the video. We pulled out the water supply tube only a few inched and the clog disappeared. After putting the same tube back in place, the water dispenser is working like a charm.

I agree why not connect the hose to the dispenser before feeding it down to the bottom and then you don't have to pull a circuit board off?

it might require that you have a second person to hold it. but it would still be easier than pulling the whole board apart to get the hose on to it later

Your idea may very work as well, and I think your right a second person would be ideal. Fishing the hose down thru can take a bit of effort and if it was attached tot he dispenser there is a greater risk of kinking the tubing. Experience is usually the teacher in these sort of repairs and most of us do not want to disassemble anything needlessly but way Steve has shown it is how the manufacture has suggested it be done. Next time I have one apart I will try your way, never too old to learn something new. Thanks! - Chris

Hello i have a frigidaire from 2007 and i changed the water pump, i just discovered that the water line pumps water direct to the dispenser, there is no filter in between , is that normal? Is the filter that i been changing for years just for the ice? Thank you.

I am about to execute this tutorial. That was very helpful. So upon inspecting the connector down near the kick plate, I noticed water was going up the water line to the dispenser. It may have been frozen. So, before I start diagnosing all other malfunctioning possibilities, I decided to try this on first. Wish me luck.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery, it does not make ice a lot, it is slow but it makes ice, I checked the water line's and the water pressure, so it is the solenoid?, so if in case I order one, is it anything else it could be? any sugestion's. thank you for your help on this!!

While the video was helpful, especially the part about removing the circuit board for better access (I remove both of them rather than risk a plug or cable failure) feeding the new tube in from the top did not work for me. It always hung up on some edge near the end. But feeding in from the bottom was a breeze. I used 5Ft of 5/16" tubing and cut off the excess a little long at the outlet once it was all assembled. What cased the problem to begin with was that my tube dislodged while the air purge from a new filter was occurring. The water line had been frozen for months due to poor storage (over filling) of items in the freezer. Mustn't do that or you get warmer and colder spots

What do I do if the line breaks? I was pulling it out and the bottom piece of line is still poking out of the bottom, but I have a 4.5 foot piece of tubing.

I took mine out and now can’t get it back in. It hits something about 5 or 6 inches from the top, whether I insert the tube from the top or up the door, and just stops.

Mine did this and I tried running the old line and a new piece down opposite ends and found there was a piece of ice clogging the tube and with both I smashed it enough to fit it through but only up the bottom.

for almost 20 years I've had a fridge like this and only in the last year has this water line frozen up on me almost once a month. I have installed a heater near the end of the dispenser hose right around the ice door flapper, but the ice seems to form much deeper in the door. I know i can fix this with heat or leaving the door open. I even bought this thing called a Water Line Buddy that is just a syringe and a few feet of tube that has a smaller OD than the ID of the water line. It slides right in and in can inject hot water on the ice jam. However, my real question is why is it icing up after 20 years of not doing that. are there heaters inside the door that can be replaced? I know there is one near the door gasket but the interior of the freezer door is a mystery to me. Is it possible to access the interior of the freezer door where the hose runs to insulate it better? Hoping someone knows what the real issue is on this freezing water line. And to preemptively answer a question i think i will get: My thermostat setting has not changed in the colder direction. I have even tried a warmer setting with no luck. Has anyone tried adding the aluminum backed sound deadening material to the inward facing wall of the freezer door with any success?

I installed this adhesive heater around the opening to the ice door and the water line still froze up. that's why i think the place to apply heat is somewhere else. mysteriously though the line has stopped freezing many weeks later. but it did require 4 or 5 sessions over a week or two with hot water and the Water Line Buddy though. I highly recommend this tool as its the fastest way i have seen to free an ice jam in the water line. when i used mine i ended up sending the tube maybe a foot up into the water line. wherever the problem is its deep in the door. or it was, since it doesn't seem to happen anymore.

@@TheRetrodog I as well have this same issue and think there must be in interim heating element gone bad. Here’s a couple of other tips for others. We didn’t want to wait to get the waterline buddy in the mail so we improvised and ran to Petsmart and bought the mini airline hose. This is the smaller version of an airline hose and it fits perfectly inside the 5/16 inch waterline. I drilled a hole in the top of a Poland Spring bottle cap just barely small enough for the hose to fit through and it doesn’t leak. I sit the bottle on top of the fridge and gravity does the hot water work. No squeezing. I just have to push in the hose. Another tip is that the water line hose is free fitting in dispenser. What happened to us as we didn’t realize that and when we pushed in the hot water line we pushed the fridge line up inside the housing. The next time the hose didn’t go in and I had to take the front panel off. Remove three screws on the bottom and slide it up to lift it out. Thanks for my wife for figuring that one out.
