Lived in this city for 32 years and 6 years as a refuse collector: Martim Moniz is a complete craphole. Between people trying to sell you drugs at every corner and people throwing garbage into the streets, let the devil pick. Robberies are extremely common there. There is no Portuguese culture to be experienced in this part of town, it's almost exclusively either Asian restaurants or kebab places, no Portuguese food. Out of the dirties places in Lisbon, coming from a former refuse collector, Martim Moniz is by far the dirtiest most disgusting place in all of downtown Lisbon. Except maybe Bairro Alto, another place barren of Portuguese culture.

Forgot to add: From a PSP report (local police) from 2017, 37% of rapes in Lisbon happened in downtown Lisbon. God knows how bad it's right now.

As far as I know you cannot live or work here on your tourist visa. To stay here first you must have a type D visa and then eventually you will get a blue card or European passport.
