Someone needs to affirm to Shayne that he looks FABULOUS when he dresses up. Everytime he mentions he thinks he looks stupid in costume, I'm like "did you forget how hard you SLAYED as Dio???"

When it comes to personal insecurities, I would just reassure them that it's okay to feel that way. Just say "It's perfectly okay to wear the same 3 outfits." Because your voice will never be louder than their inner voice about their insecurities.

Maybe he sees that as being different because he's working? I could see it that way, maybe he thinks he looks silly if he tries to dress up "off the clock". But yeah, absolutely, he wears the hell out of his costumes! Off the top of my head, when he was the phantom of the opera for a TNTL bit, when he was Dio at Damien's funeral roast or when he wears suits for the smosh game shows - 10/10, he can wear anything with confidence!

God, the part I love the most about that is the pen caps. That is the absolute, most amazingly petty move. The $5 they claimed for the pen caps could easily buy those pens, but instead just leave them there to have their ink dry and be a pain in the ass. I unironically wish to one day achieve that level of petty.

The one with the birthday cake. The fact that the girl was turning 16 I seriously doubt that she got it in her mind that she could just buy the dress out of the blue or even have the money to do it, I 100% believe that she said she really liked the dress and her mom then said that she could just buy it off her friend and gave her the money for it, especially as she was also doubling down on it to a TEENAGER.

To those who aren't from the area: "Minnesota goodbye" refers to family/friends saying goodbye and then talking for at least another 30 minutes. There are 2 strategies to combat this: 1. Say the word "welp" and slap your knees. This signals to fellow midwesterners that it's time for you to gtfo 2. Irish goodbye

The dress code ballgown one was astounding...like- I have a friend who is more comfortable in sweats, and for my birthday (knowing how much I care about clothes and themes) she asked how I'd like for her to dress, to which I joked, "As long as it isnt a snowsuit!" and her as a joke got there with an actual snowsuit on and a banger outfit underneath. @@jessnorton812I get what you're saying, but there are a lot of stories where the friends have ruined the party because the assumption was right, and it sounds like that was going to happen. I feel like the solution here is they don't need to be friends. the friend doesn't care about what she looks like, and this friend cared about aesthetics for the party, the ignoring of it would have ruined the party, and she didn't want that drama, it just sounds like they shouldn't be friends. It's sad because we all went to uni together and I always made effort to socialise. I went on exchange with that same guy so it wasn't like he was unaware that I couldn't make things possible on a budget. I only noticed in retrospect really how poor of a friend he was: he'd offer to help with things like grabbing food from the canteen (I mean badger me into accepting his charity) but then he tried to embarrass me in front of company as if I'd begged him for it. I put a stop to that real quick. And it wasn't like he was significantly richer either. I guess it's how they class you and treat you accordingly that hurts the most.

23:18 For one of my birthdays my best friend made me a cheese cake. I was extremely surprised and pleased but was confused as to why she put in so much effort when she knows that I’m not a huge fan of sweets. We have known each other for probably 22 years at this point and boy did it show- she surprised me with her famous homemade Mac and cheese in cake form barely holding up candles because it was so gooey. I was ECSTATIC. She makes the BEST Mac and cheese. The cake ended up falling once the spring form was off into not a cake anymore and we just ate Mac and cheese the way it was intended and it was one of the best birthday surprises I’ve had my whole life. The book ball one makes me absolutely livid dude. I wear pretty much exclusively sweats and t shirts on a day to day basis, sometimes with a shacket. They're comfortable, (I think) they look alright, and because of the way I buy my clothes, I don't have to do a lot of outfit planning. It's very convenient. I also absolutely love dressing up. It's so fun to throw on my suit and a tie or a bowtie, maybe add a pin as well. It's incredibly fun, I just don't do it often since I'm not about to show up to my classes in a suit or dress shirt. It takes a bunch of time compared to throwing on my regular outfits. That doesn't mean I won't do it if I'm invited somewhere with a dress code.

The College Creeper Story: I went back as an older student and went to one party: when I was 28, I was invited by the host for their 22nd birthday. I stopped by to be nice, but I've never been much into the party scene. It was awkward and it literally felt like I was surrounded by drunk children. Not once did I think to myself that I wanted to do anything with any of them and I left pretty quickly after the host tried to hit on me. Lesson learned: don't go to the college parties when you're a grown adult, even if you attend classes with the people that invite you.

For the story about not inviting the friend to not ruin the aesthetic: Prom is a big event for most people, but isn't that important to some people. She may not have gone because she just didn't think it was worth dressing up for what she might have seen as just a school event. The book club, however, is likely something she cares about considering she is a part of it. In addition, her friend is throwing the party, so it's entirely possible she would think a party her friend is throwing for something she presumably cares about is something worth dressing up for.

If they had always been honest with each other, none of these would happen. The friend would not feel sad about not being invited and the OP wouldn’t plan the party behind her friend’s back.

Yea my problem isn't that Op didn't want to invite her friend. It was how she framed the story. She obviously views her friend as some annoying raggedy tomboy and honestly it doesn't sound like Op even likes her friend to begin with if she just wasn't going to say anything at all about the party. Did she think the people of their niche book club they were in just wasn't going to say anything? It seems so shadey. Like she purposely wanted to make her friend feel bad about not putting "effort" in her appearance.

In some cultures its actually considered rude to interrupt people's conversations and whatnot at a gathering to say goodbye so "ghosting" is actually normal. But agreed that every situation and ever party is different.

She's not an asshole for not inviting her friend to her theme party because her friend didn't want to dressup. She's an asshole for not even calling her and saying "you're invited but there is a strict a dress code since it's a themed event".
@Gabriellaella23
@Gabriellaella23 8 ай бұрын
Exactly. All she had to do was give her the invite, but let her know the dress code is mandatory and she understands if she wouldn’t be able to attend.

They only way I could understand is if the dressed down friend is either combative about the subject, or will agree to do stuff she doesnt like and then complains the whole time, or worse feels rebellious about it by agreeing to the dress code but then showing up in sweats anyways leading to conflict at the party/a public argument, but op def lost the moral high ground as soon as she took the choice away from her friend.

@@Berryations problem is that the friend was part of the group the event was for. Like, if you have a motocross group, decide to hold an event for it, then don't invite someone in that group. Even if there's a good reason, that needs to be communicated. I'd 1000% threaten her with excommunication from the group and/or loss of friendship if she didn't respect the expectations for the event.

I completed my bachelor degree at 25 and could definitely feel the difference between students my age and students ages 18-21. I don’t understand the desire to go to college parties once you’re past 22/23. I don’t even like going to bars that are popular with college aged people.

I also did my Master's therefor I was in College around that age as well and yea, Im not even from the US but the "college party vibe" is so not it anyways as soon as you are out of that range. Especially with first year students...no front, but in particular freshmen before there has been any "selection" are literally just children. As a 25 year old Im in my "if anything we are doing a houseparty with close friends only" era. :D

I'm autistic so I never want to announce I'm leaving in a way where I have to say goodbye to everyone individually and hug the people who want to be hugged (ultimate nightmare scenario). These days I just yell "I'm going home, bye everybody" and bolt out the door as people respond. That way I wont be TA by leaving them wondering where I've gone, but I can also make a quick escape.
