Can we all just appreciate how telling the lyrics are of each character, especially at the end? Katherine says they've got faith- she believes in the Newsies and the strike and believes that they can win; Davey says they've got the plan- he's laid it out so meticulously it HAS to work, and Les, sweet Les, says that they've got Jack- to this innocent kid Jack is the only thing that matters. This show needs more appreciation, and the writers need more appreciation.

I love this, the cast recording is fantastic but this just has such raw emotion, especially when Davey says "Tell me how quitting does Crutchie any good?" like just the pure anger, frustration, and pain is his voice is incredible

Hey, guys, I'm playing Davey in a school production of this show, and I have a really hard time hitting the "GUYS" part( along with other similarly high notes)... any pointers from some singing/vocal experts?

The SaDe I actually use that line as a warm up verse, I’d say just practice! Personally I try to change my voice and sing things in different tones, if that makes sense? You may find a way to sing it easier!

I know I am very late, but (for future reference) when going to hit a high note, try to straighten your back to open up you diaphragm, bring your chin down to reduce strain on your vocal cords, take a deep breath, open your mouth as wide as if you were yawning (but make sure your vowel shape is there as well. For example, for "Guys" you'd use "A" then push into "E" then bring your teeth together quickly to create the sharp "S". Honestly, it would be a lot easier to just show you, but I hope that kind of helped). A cool little trick I learned when playing Enid Hoopes for Legally Blonde as a (former) very low alto (former as in, at the beginning of the rehearsal period, I was a low alto, but my show night a few months later, I was a mezzo soprano) is if you can lip trill the note, you can sing it, but you are psyching yourself out. Another trick I learned from that same musical is if you sing your tough note an octave or two higher (no matter how "ugly" it may come out) a few times in a row, it will help your brain realize that the note you are trying to sing is do-able. Lastly, make sure you warm up!!!! It is super important for maintaining the health of your vocal chords. Your voice is your instrument, but once its hurt, no amount of surgery can bring it back to its former glory. If you feel uncomfortable (like you are straining), or you (god forbid) feel any pain AT ALL, S T O P!!! Take a break and tackle that trouble note another day (if you are in a run-through rehearsal, try it cause you are doing it once, but in a practice where you will be doing it a hundred times in a row, let your directors know that you need a little break from that high note and that you will be taking it easy on that day. They should understand). Remember, practice makes perfect. Just because you didn't get it the first time, doesn't mean you can't ever get it. If you have any questions, I will gladly answer them to the best of my ability. Hope this helped! Happy singing, my friend!

Talking about different Broadway musicals songs, today in my afternoon I was trying to sing both versions of the song from Newsies "Watch What happens" ( i mean the original version and also the Reprise) And when I did the Reprise version suddenly I stopped myself a little bit and I made a personal Comment that it was: " i am going to feel a little bit ridiculous doing that part of the reprise" ( before my version of The line for 🎶" Go and look at the poor guys are head Spinning"🎶
